Which ones? Callaghan, offered him the same and he said no....LDU, Merrett etc...not like saints havent

Generally they go to a top team or a team on the fringe of competing.
Given the established players wanting out and the lack of success since 1995, it's a sign that things are not all good at Carlton. Blame the money though if it helps you sleep at night!

We’ve lost zero players we want to keep for as long as I can remember - until now obviously.

TDK left for a massive offer - it’s a $700k p/a difference for 8 years, that’s huge. You’re absolutely dreaming if that’s not the reason he’s leaving. If it’s not, he would’ve left any other year he was pursued (which he was).

JSOS is a shame, but who knows with that family.

My main concern about the deal is once it seemed like he made his decision and Carlton weren't making finals he had mentally checked out. Not sure if that mentality is the type you want to have as the pillar of the club going forward. Money and contract length will sort itself out and in 3-4 years there will be a lot more players getting paid more than him so that isn't a concern

Yeah, you know your stuff.

TDK injured his throat in the Round 9 St Kilda Game, missed Round 10 and and played with it after that.

Players can be injury restricted and still play, just not as well.

Cerra, Hewett and Martin deals were not big. Cerra got offered less at Carlton than Fremantle were offering. Hewett came across as a free agent on a reported deal of ~450K. And Martin's deal was about 650K per year it was just heavily front ended to get him for nothing through the draft. Not close to anything like the TDK deal.
