I would be surprised if Lynch isnt wearing black n white in 2019.
Gee the Pies fans have set themselves up to be ridiculed if Lynch doesn't go them. It will be doubly worse if he leaves Gold Coast and lands at another Vic club!

The money and years from the Pies will need to be OTT because Gold Coast belongs to the AFL and you can guarantee that there will be ambassadorial payments added at the Gold Coast.

Wondering if Collingwood have a Plan B just in case that highly unlikely event occurs and Lynch re-signs with Gold Coast or another club other than Collingwood?

Lynch would want to be up for the intense scrutiny if he goes to the Pies as the hugely paid great (black &) white hope and after the disaster of the Buckley reign they are hardly a destination club, they even have a President who is on the nose.

Your “wondering” of the Pies is disturbing. Is this about Lynch or Collingwood

If getting a compo pick gives you a crack at Lukosious, Rankine or King, its automatically worth more than 2 later picks. The top end talent in this years draft is bonkers. Those guys would have all gone pick 1 if any had been eligible in last years draft.
But are all 4 better than Tom Lynch for GCFC. That is the key question?

I think Lynch will leave and the Suns will take the compo and start the rebuild properly
If they finish last or 2nd last they will have 2 very good picks to select 2 very good youngsters and will move on from Lynch and bring in players that will want to be there the following year and will start to show signs in 2020
I actually agree with you (for once).

GCFC have some good kids developing from last years draft and getting two potential superstars to develop together would make a lot of sense if they have a bad year in 2018. This years draft is a massive opportunity for GCFC to reset properly.

Plan B for me would be trying to get 2 top 10 picks and going tall. While it’s not going to be a quick fix I think it’s the best option if Lynch fails because I don’t think there’s another tall we can go for. Unless they break their contract.
Big Levi is out of contract and could straighten you up and solve that...
;)

But how often can a club reset and fill up, again, with 18 year olds. It doesn't matter how good the top picks are. It will still be a fee seasons until they are ready to form the core of a team.

If Lynch bails, what will induce the likes of Swallow and Martin to renew when their contracts next expire? And if they go, how long will it take until the enthusiasm of Brodie and Ainsworth starts to falter?

It doesn't matter how good of a coach Dew might be, or what the club can do to instil a better culture. If a team doesn't have a handful of mature, top quality players it doesn't stand a chance of being competitive even. And if it can't at least be competitive, it won't ever become good.

Lynch has the right to do what he wants come season end. He can't be expected to stay just to prop the club up. But if he does leave, I think it will be a disaster for the AFL's hopes of establishing a viable club on the Gold Coast.

I think some people here need a dose of GC optimism :) Lynch and May will both sign 5 year contracts with GC. GC will still have 2 top ten pick next draft (GC + Eagles) plus some great academy talent (Bailey, Graham).

"Richmond and Hawthorn head the clubs with a keen interest in Lynch, with Collingwood also expected to bid for the key forward, who is clearly the most prized of the free agents in 2018 and whose decision shapes as the most significant in the competition.

But none of the clubs – and especially the Tigers, who have a tight salary cap following the re-signing of Dustin Martin – are expected to offer Lynch a deal that the Suns couldn't match."

This.
After they take their two first rounders which they already have at the end of this season they will have already had enough top end picks over a 3 year period for a complete rebuild. One extra pick will mean zero compared to what it will do to the culture of the club.

Oh Jake, keep believing we have a tight salary cap, tool.

Not sure anyone believes any club would have a tight salary...The CBA requires clubs to pay their players a minimum of 95% of the salary cap ..The AFL's equalisation measures now allow clubs to spend up to 105% of the salary cap in any given season, provided they have ''underspent'' in any of the previous two years. The maximum amount a club can bank from last year’s salary cap is $680,000, which they can take forward and spend in this coming seasons football year....where the TPP cap would increase from $12.9 million to $14.4 million in 2018, before it fell to $13.9 million in 2019.

yeah but Lynch would be looking for 7-ish years you would think? that 680k would be a nice carrot at the beginning though

If Lynch decides to leave, it's bit of a catch 22 if GC want to trade for mature/established players. The player would have to agree to the trade to move to GC. Due to GC being poor on the field it will be hard to convince a player to play for them. There may be some players that are okay with that. The best bet would be a good player who has already tasted success and looking for a big pay check before they retire. But then it comes down to will the club be willing part with said player. A lot of planets would have to align for a good mature/established player to be included for the trade for Lynch.
