We offered him 600k over 5 years last year and we didnt get him so I assume we have that space still. Freo brought in Hogan and Lobb on huge coin so I am not sure they will be in a much better space than us.

We reportedly offered that. We're also paying Gaff and Gov over a million each. Reportedly...

How much our contract offer was had no bearing on the non trade. Kelly wanted WC, Geelong said no.

Surely we can prise him loose this year. He won't be a Geelong player after 30 Oct (or whatever the date is), so if they don't do a deal they will get nothing. Hope Kelly can stay firm and not be forced into a deal he doesn't want.

Agree, never said it did.

To be honest, I am losing interest in Kelly given what he is going to cost us at the trade table. Cogs has to be the primary target. The fact we dont have to pay anything trade wise is the cherry on top. He is also so much cleaner, better skilled and defensive minded, which is rare for a quality mid. I'd be willing to overpay to get him because that sort of player is rare. If it means we lose a fringe player(s) on 300k then so be it (like Tigers did to get Lynch).

I'm not convinced he won't stay at Gee-long. He has said on multiple occasions that he loves the place, the club and the fans. It's just his partner that is having huge problems.

A lot of the Cats approach last year was about preventing him walking out (Sticking to his last year), giving them a year to work on both him and his partner. If over this year they can make her happy or have such success he won't want to leave, then there is every chance he will stay.

My current bet is he'll be at the Cats in 2020.

I agree. A year is a long time in footy

Will big frase be delisted this year or do we have to keep him on the list so he can keep captaining us til retirement then possibly move into coaching?

I'd like to see us take the highest rated mid with our first pick,i guess by the end of the year we'll have a better idea on whether an inside or outside mid is more crucial.probably wont have a first round pick this year tho.
A tough speedy back pocket to develop would be handy too

Schofield mentioned on the podcast he is looking into becoming a player manager and is also doing increased media commitments so he is looking to his future after footy sooner than later.

Maybe offer him one year as aback up player on 150k and he can become the captain at the Beagles? He will be on good coin for his media gigs which will help him getting into becoming a player manager.

Have you ever tried to change a woman's mind?

He may be just saying that. Pretty awkward questions, he seems like a fairly unassuming guy. Chris Judd said the same things. We all know how that ended.

Kennedy and Hurn already signed on for 2020. Which is a tad strange as why do this so early? What happens if they have a bad injury and miss all of 2020 and then retire?

The others sure.

So the indicative draft order as it stands sees us with 7, 21 and 25. Impressive and very strong.

I’ve not got enough details on academy and father/son prospects (Green is top draw for GWS) - that will be more evident post carnival but early thoughts
- Sharp East Freo looks the goods and already playing WAFL albeit in a weak team and Should be mid first round
- Byrne Stingrays offering speed and ball winning around stoppages and should be mid first round
- Robertson - PERTH (nephew of Darren Glass) offers attack on the contest and toughness we sore lack and late first early second
- Dow - Paddy’s brother and had great speed and loves it at the contest and should be mid to late first

Oh and if you think I’ve only mentioned inside mids who are good in the contest, the you are right. That is what we need and that is what we must prioritise

No way we finish up with pick 7. We will be going deep into finals.

Not quite correct - Both Jetta and Masten are not even 30 yet.

That assumes we don’t win a few more games! I hope we don’t end up with those picks (I secretly hope we end up with those picks)

Settle down - I can’t see us staying at this ladder position. The guys I mentioned are middle to late first rounders

Josh Kelly has signed for another 2 years. The AFL.com report is that it was for less money than North, St Kilda and Carlton were offering. I can't see these club at the pointy end in the next 3 years so smart decision.

How will this impact Coniglio? At least they have used up a fair amount of their salary cap. Kelly is a million dollar man and so GWS will have less to throw at Cogs.

Cogs will feel he is a $1 mln man and I would agree.

I feel like we might have jumped a little early committing to JK and Hurn for another 2 years. Hopefully there it is for less guaranteed money and more on KPI's and 1st team performances.

Here are the supposed uncontracted players (forget Hickey - I believe his was a multi year deal

The options then for players on decent coin would be Masten, Schofield and Jetta. If we had to delist all three for Cogs, no drama.

Maybe they needed to lock those contracts away so they could deal with the Gaff contract offer ..
