Reported tonight that Essendon are definately going to be trading Lovett at the end of the year.

Any interest from the Lions you think?

Talented player with pace. If he got it together he could be a player and the pace would be handy.

I think probably not a lot of interest but there would be worse players for us to go after.

It's interesting that Essendon have put him on the trade table while still in season.

It seems they have shown their hand and put themselves on the back foot from the get go.

Interesting. Of all the Essendon players I'd want in our team I'd have Davey, Hille and Lovett. Could solve our small forward issue too.

Oh well. At least Freo will get 1-2 years out of him before he's finished:thumbsu:

It is a pretty aggressive strategy that Essendon are adopting. There are plenty of marginal types being told to retire or being mooted as trades. If Gumbleton and Ryder can become elite KPPs, they've got the developing midfield (Riemers, Lonergan, Myers etc) to really shoot up the ladder in a couple of years time.

26/7 year old Lovett? No thanks.

Careful....using the Travis Johnstone logic will have him close to 30 in a week's time.

Anyway I don't think we will be going there.

I think we need some Pace for 09, but I don't think Lovett is the answer.

Greetings Viewers

I've thought about this for a nanosecond... NO!!!

Why? At best he doesn't offer us anything we don't already have, with more baggage than Paris Hilton going on holiday.

Not sure our current problems could be solved by trading, although will be interesting to see what their strategy is come trade week.

I'm hoping we keep to the practice we've used since 2000 - trade only for undeniable talent - only Michael,Caracella and Johnstone in the last 8 years

Mal, agreed, blake needed to pass muster with the leadership group and spent time in 2s to prove his dedication to getting his head over the ball. Johnstone needs to go through the same process with his decision making.

I noticed a discussion on the main board that Crows ruckman John Griffin is seeking a trade out of the Crows. I have no idea what he is like, but any chance we will trade for a ready made ruckman?

Would we contemplate trading 'Sunset Tan' Sherman or one of the many similar type calibre players to get a mature ruckman as support for Charmo/Leuey?

Personally, I'd have a look at Jeff White.

We only need another couple of years for Leuenberger (and Tippett) to be able to compete at a good capacity. If we could have Charmo and White shouldering the load in the mean time, it could be a very prudent investment.

I suspect Griffin (who is far from ready made) is requesting a trade for lack of opportunities, something that may also be a problem for him here.

A lot of our ruck drafting strategy depends on what the feeling is within the club about Mitch Clark's likely long term role. If he is seen as more a forward than a ruck, then I think we'll need to think about getting a mature bodied ruckman. If it is the other way around, I think that 1 senior ruck, 2 semi-developed rucks and 1 youngster (ie a draftee or Tippett), is probably about the same amount of ruck coverage as a lot of clubs have.

I think I'm in the minority, but I see Mitch as a ruck more than a forward. In which case, I think we need to look closely at either some of the well-performed rucks at the next level down (ie VFL, WAFL, SANFL) or try and trade for one.

I suspect White is starting to look like a good get for a lot of clubs. Plenty of clubs would love to sign him up to give a couple of years' service. If he is physically OK, then I think he'd be worth a pick around 25.
