Trade Talk

If you can't make deals over the weekend then I would expect a flurry of signings on Monday the 11th, from said club discussions over Saturday and Sunday.

Can deals be made over the weekend?

There'd be alot of chatter going on between player managers, list managers, coaches etc behind the scenes in preparation for Tuesday but the paperwork can't be signed and submitted until then.

If Haley ends up at GC, I can just see the thread a few years down the track: "David Hale - premiership player".

In a few years time, I can also see this thread: "North Melbourne - premiership team".

no love for jack anthony? still young and has a very accurate kick on him.. could be a good boost in our forward line

No, no, no. A million times no. Would rather develop A. Black

Hales value has gone up because of the interchange reductions.

You still need 2 Ruckmen, and if one can play as a KPF then you can play an extra runner.

One dimensional Ruckmen like Blake are going to be a thing of the past. You cant have guys that limited on your team with only 3 on the bench.

A Twitter account that was linked last night that may or may not have legitimate information says this:

Deep Throat said:
Hale deal far from done. Wants to head to Dees but Roos holding out for a pick in the mid 20s. GC lurking

Linky-poos is here

That suggests there's someone we want that we expect to be available in the mid 20's, but not for much longer after that.

The same twit also mentioned: Lot's of Vic clubs enquiring about Luke Shuey's availability. Expected to stay in Perth but WC could be tempted by mid/late 1st round pick.

Absolute rubbish.

The Gold Coast have sat back and entered the fray late in order to gauge what Hale is worth on the market. I expect Hale to go to Gold Coast for pick 26, the only other club that could trump Gold Coast is Hawthorn but their first priority is to get Chris Tarrant.

Black is 2-3 years away from playhing a major role. He has just had an operation and won't have much of a preseason this year. I hope he can make it as there is plenty of talent there, but I wouldn't have thought Anthony would be competing with him in the short term.

If he came relatively cheaply, I would look at Jack Anthony seriously. We have no ready made forward options other than Petrie, who would have to be under some cloud given what happened this season. And one thing that Anthony does very well, even when out of form, is provide great pressure in the forward line, which is an integral part of our game plan.

Even if he gets overtaken by the likes of Black/O'Keefe/Tarrant (all three is extremely unlikely) he would have provided us with plenty in 2011-12 at least, and if we go for him, that would mean Bon would have approved it having worked with the man himself.

While he might be a better player right now, I would not want Anthony taking senior games away from the younger guys.

Every extra game we can get into O'Keefe, Tarrant or Black only fast tracks their development.

Bottom line for me is the question, is Anthony best 22 long term? I would say no, so I dont think hes worth trading for.

I don't even see how Jack Anthony could fit into our side next year let alone long term when some of the other youngsters get going.

Apparently North held formal interviews with both Wallis and Liberatore (father-sons at the Bdogs) Bullies have had to commit their first 2 picks to keep them as F-S picks but at least we're being aggressive in our recruitment rather than taking a "Eh theyre father sons no chance" attitude.

Edit: More indication from Lavell we're being 'aggressive', reckons that north wont be mucking around with the Hale trade and will make the other clubs work, sounds like we want best value.

Hale to the GC could now depend of Krakeour to the Pie's.

If Collingwood cough up their first selection for Krakeour, I could easily see this on-traded to us for Hale.

It's the ideal pick, as it's not effected by any of the compensation picks.

Confirmed that Mitch Clarke wants out of Brisbane for a return to WA. If a deal cannot be struck hopefully he will stay at Lions as that may change the landscape in relation to Hale.

We have some real bargaining power here. Great to see us playing hard ball. Also like us keeping the doggies honest. Never know what might come of those chats.
