Different scenario though.
Doc barracked for us and he REALLY wanted to play for Carlton.

Don't think Jacksh really cares where he goes.
I think he does. Otherwise he could've stayed @ GWS. He's moving for opportunity - not because he's particularly homesick AFAIK.

Mick thinks O'Rourke is going to Hawthorn so the proposed deal for pick 1 probably won't even happen.

Again, why are we punishing good teams? If they have the cap space (Sydney excluded), why shouldn't they be allowed to go get whoever they want?

IMO Its not about punishing the good teams.

There are two rungs to the equalisation process, the cap and the draft.

While the cap acts to control spending, the draft controls the number and quality of the players that you can add to your list in any given year.

Draft picks are the currency by which players move between clubs.

I agree that players should be able to go where they want, and the good clubs should be able to attract the best players. However they should NOT be able to add them to their list without both fitting them within the cap or paying for them with draft picks.

Otherwise the equalisation process will not work.

His manager didn't say that though. He said he'll nominate a club when he comes home from Bali. Right SBYM ? :p ;)
Where did he say that? I listened to the interview on Trade Radio and I don't remember him saying that. I'm happy to be corrected though.

I didn't listen but SBYM was adamant he said it. A dogs poster came here too & said he said it too.

No doom and gloom here, if he comes to us great , if he doesn't, too bad.

:thumbsu:

I'd be content if we kept our first 3 picks, were gifted an end of third round compo for Waite and used {Robinson, Lucas, Garlett, Ellard, Armfield, Warnock, Watson} as leverage in bringing Jones across, and whoever else nominates us.

Good luck to Jaksch and the saints, but the talk on here over the past month about a player who has played less than a dozen games, and none that were impressive and hasn't even made a big impact at NEAFL level was quite bemusing. O'Rourke at least had dominated games at NEAFL level.

Also why do none if the Gold Coast fringe players ever get mentioned as trade options, they have the same list challenges at keeping hold of there players that GWS have, they have just sacked there coach so could be the perfect opportunity to bring a talented player back home.

Yeah seems a bit funny that there is constant speculation about the GWS players and almost nothing on the GC players.

Probably a mix of GWS having more highly rated talent, and maybe more homesick/disgruntled players.

But still...would have expected to hear more about some GC players.

Exactly, Jaksch is allegedly moving for opportunity and probably a bit to get back to VIC.

Purely based on opportunity, from the outside i think Carlton and Saints pretty similar, although slightly more at St Kilda (but seriously you have to earn your spot cant just expect a spot to be handed to him)

Saints - I see him competing with Tom Lee for a spot. Not quite sure whats happening with Lee is he still injured? Also not sure if Riewoldt will be around much longer so there is an opening.

No.1 ruck - Hickey/Longer
Forward/Ruck - Stanley
Forward #1 - Riewoldt
Forward #2 - Jaksch / Lee

In defence, has every chance to replace Bruce, or may become third tall defender (not sure who is 3rd tall defender for Saints now....Fisher?)

Carlton - Competing with Jones and Watson.
No.1 ruck - Kreuzer/Wood
Forward/Ruck - Casboult
Forward #1 - Hendo
Forward #2 - Jaksch / Jones / Watson

In defence, competing with White for third tall spot.

So Saints probably only just edge us out in terms of opportunity, but obviously many other factors involved like length of contract, $$$, how important success is to him and where he sees each club, whether he wants to go to seaford for training...

He likes the idea of having established talls around him to learn off whilst still getting a game. He doesn't get that as much @ stk. Other than Riewoldt, not much quality to learn off.

He wants to be developed properly. I really don't think $s are at the front of his mind - it's not like we're offering peanut wages.

From memory (so I could be wrong), I think there was a bit of talk about teams wanting GCS players last year. I think it's just a timing thing - after being in the comp a couple of years now, GCS players have probably solidified themselves as part of that team, moreso than GWS. The Suns have been around long enough to have re-signed many players already haven't they?

How do you know this?

On the Suns... not sure about contract status but there's a good few lads up here that we should be targeting.

Main one I'd be hunting is Alex Sexton... a 185cm kid with speed and quality disposal by foot. Has played a handful of games but not secured in 22 by any means. Has kicked multiple goals a few times and can play anywhere from HBF to HFF.

Only sticking point is that he's a QLDer so could be tough to displace.

Id argue that he can learn more at the Saints.

Riewoldt is a gun and has been for a long time. Who do we have that even compares to Riewoldt? No one.

If anything, Waite would have been the one for him to learn from. Now he's left. Maybe thats why MM was so pissed he left and didnt tell us till now, because it ruined our chances of getting Jaksch ;)

There's more than the plyer aspect, a decent coaching panel and head coach, leadership and club facilities and of course the chance of success....Mick has a pretty good track record developed and nurtured many a young star.
