He's 34, probably past it, only going to play for a year, in what universe is he a big name?

He's a multiple All Australian, four time premiership winner who just won the B&F. In what universe is he not a big name?

I'm not awarding anything (yet).

I'm just saying, it's hilarious that people have been complaining we never land a big name player and the minute we do, it's not the right big name player.

He's perfect. We aren't landing a young AA mid without selling the farm. Under this arrangement we could snare a bloke who will be around just long enough for one last crack at a flag before Kennedy and Priddis retire.

Ill be frank here, we still aint getting a Judd/Dangerfield/Ablett in their prime with 6-8 years left in their career. We are essentially Richmond 2009 that has picked up Ben Cousins. Takes one hamstring tear in round 1 for this to go massively pear shaped.
And how do you suppose we get one of those types of players. Two of them went home and the third was a marquee player for a new club. Players like that don't just get traded in, especially without giving something up. We have nothing to give up without selling the entire team

Forget about how many possessions Mitchell will get or what position he'll play, we are currently a mentally fragile unit. If Mitchell points a few fingers in the locker room, he'll be worth his weight in gold.

Our list is currently lacking intangibles.

Agreed

The next two years are the last couple of cracks before the older guys retire and we re-load with the younger guys. Mitchell is perfect for us right now..

Especially now that Brant is gone

****ing spot on.

Somewhat likely IMO, especially considering the number of second round picks Freo are getting
They've got about 47 deals to get done with those second rounders

Yep, his work-rate, professionalism, preparation and knowledge will be what we're bringing him across for.

Jesus, the criteria gets even more difficult to satisfy.

So JOM, Coniglio, Bontempelli wouldn't be sufficient because they're too young. Jelwood, Pendlebury? Nah, they're over 27, not good enough.

Can't win.

I bet some of these posters would complain if Miranda Kerr stripped off in front of them that her breasts weren't quite perfect

settle the **** down.

Just be rational about this and think about how much Cousins helped Richmond. His leadership, training work ethic example for young players, taking pressure off Deledio etc. How well have Richmond done since Cousins retired after 2 years with them.

Some of you are losing your ******* minds. Im just trying to be level headed about the whole thing. Yes its exciting but ill wait to see what trade takes place before i volunteer for the circle jerk.

Cousins was still in the clutches of drug addiction at this stage! It takes years to get right after that shit. Mitchell is the kind of leader we need imo.

Surely this makes Jetta's role in the team next season all the more vital.

With the explosive pace of Mitchell, Priddis, Hutchings, Sheed and Marsden we'd go alright at the retirement village, but against other AFL standard midfields we're going to be looking pretty dang slow.

So I see some people here are thinking Freo would bid on Waterman forcing us to use our 2nd rounder(if we use our 3rd for Mitchell). Can we be creative and trade our second rounder either for a player or later picks?
At this stage the only pick Fremantle have in front of our second rounder is pick 7, which would force us to use our first round pick. I'm not sure we'd value him that highly and call Freo's bluff.

They may get a second round pick as compensation for Chris Mayne signing elsewhere, but rumours are they've already promised that to Hawthorn for Brad Hill.

I don't think there's too much to worry about from Fremantle. I also don't think clubs are in to spiteful Academy / FS bidding lest it bite them in the ass when it is their turn to recruit a good prospect on the cheap.

Very excited by this. More for his off field impact though. How will he fit in? To me this signals a change of structure perhaps. We don't have a distributor like mitchell at the moment. Although hurn pushes up at half back a bit
