I asked the question before on Chelsea about 2 years ago here as to why they do it as it's unethical imo, but there could be something up their sleeve eventually by doing it, it potentially is helping their net spend down and maybe it was a way to get around FFP also? Who knows.
FWIW I don't see it as unethical. No-one is forcing the kids to join, they are getting a good education and many of them will go on to have excellent careers.
