I think everyone is jumping the gun with Wolves. Just because you spend money, doesn't mean you'll be successful. Just look at AC Milan this season. Most thought they'd had a brilliant transfer window but it hasn't clicked just yet.

There are quite a few clubs with rich owners that all want to be 'top 5' clubs. That doesn't mean they'll get there.

Wolves are successful though? They're running away with the Championship and unless their squad eat dodgy lasagna then they'll be in the EPL next year.

You're right about Milan not clicking but most of their signings at Bonucci, Kalanic and Biglia have been successful. The team in general haven't performed though.

But that's my point. We're talking about a club that's not even in the top flight yet and some people are already saying they'll challenge for top 5.

Just throwing money at a club doesn't guarantee results.

They may well win the Championship by a record margin with a squad that held City to a 0-0 draw in the League Cup and would likely already finish 15-17th in the PL at the least. They are absolutely not in the same basket as other wealthy clubs coming up to the PL.

It's moreso just not overpaying for average players and being able to attract quality players in the right age bracket as well.

That's a lot easier said than done even for clubs who want to join that Top 6 Level such as Everton and West Ham....

Sure. It still doesn't guarantee them success in the PL. The consensus in here seems to be that it's a foregone conclusion it will just all work for them in the PL.

Richer than the owners of mid table clubs like Everton etc?

If so then yeah they could do some damage.

They'll have to overpay wage wise with players less likely to want to go there than your Everton and west ham type clubs. And a lot more for players who are ready for the top 6 already

Nothing's foregone. Man City struggled for a while to reach the level they are now, but as noted, they will have a massive advantage over West Ham, Everton, etc. in attracting big players. Hell they got Neves while playing in the Championship lol.

Milan's kids are taking a bit of time to adapt to each other too
Kessie, Conti and Silva have been ok without being anything spectacular (though it appears Milan are looking to cash out on Silva early)
Its a shame they couldn't keep hold of Deulofeu (im sure ive spelt that wrong), and he appears available for a cut price fee now. But likely goes elsewhere
The biggest disappointment has been Calhanoglu, though he missed a lot of football last year with his suspension.

There's a decent starting XI @ Milan on paper, but on the pitch its been an extremely poor showing. I had them tipped for top 4.
Will be hard to attract talent decent enough to do anything to save this season. And they face a worrying summer with the owner issues.

Yes.

This is so underestimated.

Every EPL club has money these days, most EPL clubs can outbid every club in the world apart from a list of 6 or 7 in all the other leagues.

It's all well and good to have it, but there's no point spending 45m on Sigurdsson or 25m on Arnoutovic when you can get the worlds cream for that price, Liverpool only spent 39m on Salah for example.

Being able to sign the big players is a completely different matter. Mendes unlocks that problem, a problem that pretty much all the mid table sides have had over the last 5 years.

Their yearly revenue is $98.3b

Which is roughly 4 x the size of the Commonwealth Bank.

They're a similar size to Microsoft, BMW, HSBC and Citigroup.

Their net profit every month is more than the net worth of the 3 x Everton owners.

The company that owns PSG, Qatar Sports Investments funnels state funds into the project, to put it into perspective, the annual GDP of Qatar is $156b.

So they are on that level.

Overpay wages relative to Everton and West Ham? You realise they've signed Ruben Neves in the ****ing Championship? LOL.

I should also mention, there's a fair few rumors going around with Chicharito currently.

It didn't work for him under Moyes at Man Utd, and history is pretty much repeating itself, he can't play as a lone striker, and that's what he's been given the last 2 games, and he hasn't looked very good at all.

The Los Angeles Franchise in MLS are said to be pretty keen on him, and if we can get our money back for what we paid Leverkusen in the off-season, I think we would sell him right now.

And even with Sakho leaving, it sounds like we're trying to sign Fyodor Smolov from Krasnodar as a striker replacement for about 15M as he wants to move to London apparently.

If we don't get someone like Werner in the summer I wouldn't mind replacing Sturridge with Chicharito as an experienced backup. Would 10-15mil do it?

I would take anything over 10M for him at this point. He's on 130K a week as well, so wages are going to be an issue.

How many players in the last 15 years have played for both United and Liverpool?

If it was up to me ideally I'd bid 10mil and pay him 90k a week on a 2 1/2 year deal (which would take him to 32 years old) to be Firminos backup and try and offload Sturridge somewhere for 25mil.
Is he the only one though? Would be remarkable.
Yeah I reckon that's the only one since 2000. If he was playing for Man United still we wouldn't do business but if it was Leverkusan or West Ham I don't see much of an issue.
