I reckon the AFL quietly sent out a memo to the clubs over the bye rounds that they had been lenient with the punches during the first half of the season but that they would clamp down on it in the back half of the year because players were abusing the system and they didn't like the optics.

I also think Harry Taylor is a bit of a scragger - there's no way in hell he would have been able to keep up with Howard if he got on a lead - he's in his 30s FFS.

Dougal’s only error was to not have a slice of ham inside his clenched fist. Or memorise the capital cities of Europe in reverse-alphabetical order.

Such a character is our Harry!

They both got a game because their hits were graded as medium impact not low impact. Rohan is made of fairy floss and butter. Charlie would have thought a mosquito landed on him but Rohan was knocked out cold and didn’t move for ages. Karl is just unlucky he got the softest marshmallow in competitive sport.

Precious Harry Taylor is a weak squealing pig who hammed it up Hawthorn style. Doogs will have to cop the one game but I hope he and the others don’t forget Taylor’s part in this. Complaining to the ump, lifting his shirt for the cameras, complaining to the club doctor.

Geelong will have to toughen up if they want to be a serious contender.

Think they hit heads? So shouldn't be counted as a high hit. Amon didn't go out of his way to hit him just braced for impact surely allowed to protect yourself.
It looks like Amon bumps his chest and Rohan's head whips forward onto Amon's head or neck.

I wonder what he hand wrote in his journal about getting hit in the tumtum.

This was definitely the one that came to mind. Having said that though I am happy for off the ball tummy punches like this to result in a game. It’s an unnecessary action that they should be trying to stamp out, as long as it is consistently adjudicated across the season.

Yep. The bolded bit is my concern though.

I feel like what Amon did shouldn't result in a suspension, but him getting one is consistent with previous MRO rulings, whereas what Dougal did should result in a suspension, but him getting one is inconsistent with previous tribunal rulings. But of course both players got rubbed out for us, because Ports.

We are not challenging either charge to Amon or Howard, but Freo and WCE are challenging Walters and McGovern charges respectively.

No surprises that both got offered a game, and have accepted it, but the issue i have with the Doogs one is where are the umpires watching the scragging? They say they want to cut out the punching. Pay the free kicks that are there.

I reckon I’ve copped harder hits when on a tram that stops suddenly than Taylor copped from Howard
Yeah but Taylor's a Good Bloke TM

Regardless, if Howard and Amon's replacements have good games, Ken's likely to force them both to gain their spots through the SANFL as punishment for disadvantaging the team - particularly Howard for a stupid action.

I understand why we accepted Amon’s sanction. I still question the ‘high’ component as the vision doesn’t show he conclusively hit Rohan above the shoulders that I can tell. Looks a lot more like the whiplash did the job which I can’t see how Amon is responsible.

Was there anytime Rohan’s head made contact with anything? Besides the ground?

Amon's hit shouldn't have resulted in a suspension, but
- they are consistent in situations where injury results
- the bump is dead. In play or off. Players should know this. I even think Hartlett was fortunate by today's standards.

Hope he gets back in the team pronto - has become a weapon.

They changed that ruling again this year. If a player chooses to bump then they're responsible for any result again. A legal bump that results in a player getting concussed is all on the bumper.

Unless its Sydney Stack and the media get in first ejeculating in their pants over how great it is.
