I read his article about not getting the gig for Media Watch and he called himself a journalist in that.He doesn't.

Note how closely that reflects general push polling. Spooky, huh?
If so, one would think that there are outlets more 'right wing' than the general population.
Seems balanced to me.

But it is. For instance, ABC Local Radio is run by imbeciles, who know nothing (about broadcasting in this case), a perfect mirror of its listeners. Those are privately owned outlets and anyone is free to buy one or start up their own and direct the political stance of that outlet. The taxpayer funded broadcaster should be broadly representative of those taxpayers.
Indeed, all journalists should be introduced to our Russian friend M.Kalashnikov.
Laughed hard. But it is. For instance, ABC Local Radio is run by imbeciles, who know nothing (about broadcasting in this case), a perfect mirror of its listeners.
I never thought I'd read a sentence with these two words juxtaposed.Bolt was once a very decent news journalist. Now he's a columnist and blogger, though he's still entitled to call himself a journalist.

The sad part is they are still better than anything on commercial radio. Those who work in that industry are not only imbeciles, but arseholes to boot. ABC employees haven't the imagination to be arseholes. Commercial radio understands its demographic perfectly, and is desperately fighting a brave, ongoing battle to overtake that demographic in a headlong descent into the cesspit.Laughed hard.
I find John Faine a supercilious whiner who is never happier than when he is drumming up support for some new agressive government intervention to solve the most minor of grievances.
As such he is the perfect representative of your average Melbournian, I imagine.
I've only listened to public radio (PBS/RRR) for the last 20 years (when I'm not swearing at John Faine) so will have to take your word for that. The sad part is they are still better than anything on commercial radio.
Bit harsh on those who live in the country and have no real choice, but pretty accurate for suburban listenersBut it is. For instance, ABC Local Radio is run by imbeciles, who know nothing (about broadcasting in this case), a perfect mirror of its listeners.
Now come on. I'll bet you have listened to footy on commercial radio. This is your penance for following footy.I've only listened to public radio (PBS/RRR) for the last 20 years (when I'm not swearing at John Faine) so will have to take your word for that.

Can't remember the last time I listened to a game of footy on radio. I either watch it on T.V or go to the game. I guess every now cand then I may listen to 15 minutes or so of MMM pre game waffle on the drive in but the ads drive me nuts and soon switch over. Now come on. I'll bet you have listened to footy on commercial radio. This is your penance for following footy.
Certainly agree with the last paragraph. However, I will take issue with the general theme. He does have a worldview that he is willing to express and that is what I 've already alluded: to him no issue is too trivial that a good dose of government intervention wont fix. If he had his way we would have a royal commission every time Christine Nixon farted or a traffic light went out. Wether that makes him a lefty or righty, pro Labor or Liberal doesn't make much difference from my perspective. The thing I detest most about Faine is the thing upon which he most prides himself - his self-appointed role as the devil's advocate. To boast, as he does every day, that you are lying to your listeners, because you don't have the courage to state a position of your own, is a calculated insult. He thinks his listeners unworthy of hearing what he really thinks, so he resorts to formulaic, predictable and shallow barbs in the hope of eliciting reaction from interviewees.
The worst part about this is that he wastes the privilege of having three and a half hours of air time, in pursuit of an unrealistic, idealistic fantasy. His method for appearing even-handed is to try to be an arseh*le to everyone. After twenty years of operating in this hidebound way, a better person might rethink their position, which presupposes that any thought went into it in the first place.
Not sure what you're saying here Slax. If you are saying that country people are smarter than their urban equivalents, I'd have to say that, now being a country person, I've found little evidence of this. If you're saying that country people have more restrictions on their choice of radio programs, this may be true in some cases, though I experience little difficulty in listening to any radio station in the world, through the device upon which I am currently communicating with you. Admittedly, those who daily spend ten or so hours on a tractor may not have this option available.Bit harsh on those who live in the country and have no real choice, but pretty accurate for suburban listeners
yeah, he is a dud. Good bloke, but his politics bore the shyte out of me.Biggsy On The Blower, i think he just has a pro forma recording of inner city greenie/lefties each week. everytime i listen to the 11am hour, it is the same voice, same theme, same political movement. and this over years.

i am not even talking about biggsy. yeah, twas ambiguous.
I mean, that any guy/gal, the producer puts thru, it may as well be a record of any voice/caller/member, over the last dozen years. they always say the same $hit. i will give biggsy wide berth. no reason to. i will jsut give him the pass for his own voice. but the callers. I do not need to hear of Jimmy from northcote anymore. boring shit.
