To busy listening to the loud minority living in the past. If people loved Saturday afternoon footy so much why don't they watch it.

You've seen the fan polls on the issue right?....or probably not, if this is what you believe

Fan polls might mean something once the fans have enough info to make an informed judgment.

Part of that would mean actually having some later starts to the AFL Grand Final, outside of pandemic lockdowns, so people can experience it properly.

NRL6768241.0211.2201.0371.1831.4961.7904.553

NRL Total finals series excluding GF 9.247m (avg 1.156m), including GF 13.8m

AFL Total finals series excluding GF 8.480m (avg 1.060m), including GF 12.667m

STV ratings are unknown, but both codes set records during the finals series, with the AFL first setting a record for the most watched broadcast on fox ever, only for the NRL to slightly exceed it a week later.

I noticed like all leagiues you conveniently excluded the reach figures. You know the actual amount of people that tuned into the games. You idiots haven't figured out yet that a sport that runs only 2 hours compared to 3, artificially compressors and elevates the average figure to your advantage. Actually you probably do know that, it's why you only quote the average.

The NRL GF was a far superior spectacle, even non hard core fans got caught up in the hype and exhibition.

Pre-game entertainment headlined by a guy I'd never heard of.

The game was close. That's what it had going for it.

My mother decided to watch her first ever game of NRL that night. She said 'it was different' and has never spoken about it once since and likely never watch it again.
THAT is the person people want the AFL start time changed for. The new or casual viewer. It won't suddenly make new fans. Aside from the TV station bigwigs getting a ratings boost, I genuinely don't understand why regular people want it changed.

The AFL annual report also used averages, and quoted a total of over 18million for the finals series across FTA & STV.

Yeah but they're not doing a direct comparison to their competitor in their annual reports like your NRL mates do. If they were, reach figures would be used as they are a more accurate comparison, because the running times make a big difference.

You're comparing apples to bananas and saying 'we won', it's an NRL/Sydney media trick from way back, coz TV ratings are the only metric they're close to the AFL in, so they fabricate a dodgey win. The TV deal always shows the true reflection of viewer reach and value, unless the broadcasters don't know the real data and what they're doing.

If they eventually change it, go Twilight. Makes for a good spectacle.

Some of the recent Saturday prelims have been magic viewing
It will happen eventually. It's a matter of it not, but when. Enjoy the next two daytime AFL Grand Finals while we can.

If they change it, should just go to night. Twilight just is such a woeful time. Either keep it (my preference) OR you go to a night final, take your pick.
