You still need boundary umps to throw the ball in. They just need to the ability to call free kicks when play is near the boundary. I wouldn’t expect them to be calling free kicks in the field of play 50 meters away from the boundary line

Professionalising the umps has its pros and cons. Not sure it’s the answer but they should trial it for a year with a cohort and see anything changes

They need a core of Full-time professionals. The only reason we don't have it is that the so-called best don't want to give up their other careers as lawyers, accountants and trolley collectors. Progressively I hope we start appointing full-time umpires as full-time professionals so we at least have one per game and gradually we won't need to ask the lawyers, accountants and deboys of this world to go full-time - they will have missed the boat and the full-timers will, hopefully, through professional training and development, prove to be the better umpires anyway.

Benny and Peggy when will you represent your supporters? The situation with RFC games and umpiring is becoming untenable. RFC is the biggest sporting club in the world by membership. Fight for us. Make the AFL accountable. We are not after perfection. Just something that resembles competence.

The double fist deliberate not paid, the Prestia no prior and the worst one, i reckon, was against Broad. The campaigner was lying fully on top of his back. It’s in the back FFS. That’s what’s wrong with the game. You have to correctly tackle the guy with the ball.

Does anyone know if that rule of a free and 50m penalty from holding and stopping someone getting a 1-2 still around? Seen it happen so many times this year with only a downfield free being paid.

Didn't think O'Gorman had a bad game. In fact, other than Meredith in the first half, I though the umpiring was OK. Meredith's start was appalling. A free for a high fend by Dusty, which wasn't high, was followed by a non call for an obvious block on Lynch and a call for a block on Lynch that wasn't just before half time. Maybe the umpires advisor had a quiet chat to him at half time and possibly repositioned Meredith's whistle because he was unnoticed in the second half. We didn't make it easy for ourselves though with missed set shots and poor turnovers. I'd be surprised if we, or any other team, had the dubious pleasure of Meredith's company from here on in.

Those two against both Prestia and Broad made me so furious...despicable umpiring!
In all seriousness how could you award frees against them for such obvious non infringements!
Studs in the back fiasco last week and then today...how could you pay the free against Rioli he handballed the ball away correctly! Grrrrrrrrr

Just watching replay. That block against Lynch late in q2 was appalling. Couldn’t see live from other end. They seriously have no feel for the game at all.
Was that the one where that ex-hawk kept blocking his run back towards goal and Cut Lunch pushed him out of his way?!? What sort of free is that?!?

And the decision of the night was to let the McStay (I think) amble over the mark a good 2 metres and get run down from behind by Caddy, who copped a 50m, only for the ump to say he hadn't gone over his mark.
Then on the nice slow motion replay, which showed it plain as day, Cameron Ling backed up the ump by saying the same thing. Who pays these people.

How were we all feeling when Cameron got that holding decision?
First contest. I completely lost it. Thought the fix was on right there.
Yeah it didn't look like Grimes did much wrong, looked like Cameron stopped and propped in front of Grimes. I noticed ch7 didn't show a replay of it. My feeling is the ump reversed the free after Grimes was bumped as he realised he overreacted. Then ch7 accused Grimes of diving and replayed it 3 or 4 times. Media have something against Grimes the campaigners shouldn't be allowed to influence the umps. Would love to see the replay of the original free.

Umpiring was the poorest of any I saw over each of the finals matches. At least we got some ordinary decisions our way as well as some poor ones against us this time. Nicholls was the pick of the three but the other two can book their holidays at the coast because they won't be needed again this year.

Thought the umpiring was reasonable for us apart from that Cotch holding the ball free,,,pffttt,,,we had trouble getting the same back...
JR flies for a mark..unreasonable effort...brissy players same... no frees...pfftt...
Thought the Brisbane players were overly physical with cheap shots...pfftt...
