You still need boundary umps to throw the ball in. They just need to the ability to call free kicks when play is near the boundary. I wouldn’t expect them to be calling free kicks in the field of play 50 meters away from the boundary line
Professionalising the umps has its pros and cons. Not sure it’s the answer but they should trial it for a year with a cohort and see anything changes
They need a core of Full-time professionals. The only reason we don't have it is that the so-called best don't want to give up their other careers as lawyers, accountants and trolley collectors. Progressively I hope we start appointing full-time umpires as full-time professionals so we at least have one per game and gradually we won't need to ask the lawyers, accountants and deboys of this world to go full-time - they will have missed the boat and the full-timers will, hopefully, through professional training and development, prove to be the better umpires anyway.
