They where Frustrating as they gave hardly and Free Kicks and How many Calls did they Miss. It was Driving me Nuts.'

But on the Good Side they where Consistant with it and let the Game Flow

I thought it was one of, if not the best umpiring we have had so far this year.

They showed early they weren't going to pay many frees (2 to 1 in the 1st 1/4) and they kept that up for the match.

I'd be quite happy if umpires were that consistent and had a "theme" that could be figured out so early by both teams.

We also got 2-3 goals from the umps letting it flow, as Carlton stopped expecting a ball up and we just kept going.

Made for a great free flowing game, was game of the year up to 3/4 time.

I'd almost toast these umps, best display I've seen at a pies game in ages.

Less free kicks > more free kicks.

Let the game flow, it was beautiful to watch yesterday without the whistle stopping action every twenty seconds.

Apart from the new htb Interpretation which I don't like, didn't think it was that bad, let the game go and Paid the clear ones except for htb and that isn't an umpire but umpire bosses issue

They were poor in not rewarding decent tackles for holding the ball etc. But at least they were consistent. Not by a long means the worst umpiring performance I've seen. Essendon v Hawthorn they were considerably worse for example.

Sorry to intrude on your board guys, but I cannot agree more with this post.

I watched the replay of your game last night and it was umpired brilliantly. They let the game flow and the ones they did pay were pretty much spot on.

Compared to the crap we had to endure on Friday night, this game and the Swans game on Saturday night, were blessings to us. I enjoyed watching the Blues/Magpies game, even if the margin blew out a bit.

Less free kicks = win for all! The Umps should do it more and make a player earn a free kick, instead of giving them cheapies. :thumbsu:

This was a massive improvement I think to what usually happens. A holding the ball free kick should reward an excellent tackle, not a bloke getting second to the ball and just holds it in or if the player getting tackled gets rid of it.

I liked the umpiring today because as has been mentioned, it was consistent. Thats all you can ask for really.

There was an incorrect disposal called against the Pies which wasn't consistent with the rest of the game, but apart from that, was a big improvement on some other games I've seen this year.

Absolutely supremely umpired yesterday.

Thank goodness Chamberlain and McLaren were scheduled to the same match.

They always get itchy whistle fingers during big games because they simply cannot handle big occasions.

TD, you're way off of the mark here.

Personally I thought the umpiring was some of the best in recent times.
The current "interpretation" of the holding the ball concept ( as I don't think it's an actual rule as opposed to failing to dispose of the ball legally) seems to be competition wide and has been consistently enforced the last 4-5 rounds in all games I've seen.

I only ever have an issue with umpiring when it's not consistent.

Was brilliantly umpired very well done hats of to them, only decisions I didnt like was when they stopped play for both teams for a 50 metre penalty when the play was already further along.

Still strongly disagree with the HTB on the wing, I think early in the second? If you have time to dispose of the ball, it doesn't matter whether you've moved off the mark or not.

So have I missed something in terms of this change of interpretation because I haven't heard anything? Yesterday there seemed to be more leniency in htb, both a ball carrier taking someone on and someone diving on the ball on the ground. Basically given a lot longer to dispose / clear it out and in the latter there seems to be more awareness of the tacklers effort to keep the ball in....

Is that the jist of the new interpretation?

I hate umpires like everyone else, but they were brilliant yesterday. Of course there was the odd moment, but they are human and you forgive that.

They let the game flow and rewarded nothing stupid. If you don't notice the umps, which i hardly did yesterday, then you know they are doing a good job.

Have no hesitation in saying this was one of the best umpiring performances I've seen.

Probably helped by two sides intent on moving the ball fast...got the umpires in the mood for it I reckon.

Umpiring was, on the whole, great. We were on the losing side of the free kicks but I didn't notice while at the ground. The ability of Carlton players to spin through a 360 without giving away a free kick frustrated me, but honestly that only happened once (the frustration) which was when about 4 Carlton players were allowed consecutive 360 degree turns.

Good effort by the umpires.

I reckon the umpiring has been way better all year this year for us.

Last year, it seemed like we were being dudded week after frigging week.

This year I don't really feel we've been dudded at all..in fact perhaps even the other way ever so slightly ( mainly late vs Melb)

We've got lots of frees this year, that were there, but I just never expected them to be paid, based on last years expectations.

Anyone agree/disagree ?

Delete the above post. Remove the poster. In fact, better off wiping the board. Can't risk anyone seeing that.

couldnt agree more well done to them...

now back to the norm of kicking the umps
