Compare that to someone like Drogba :o. Still he'll get stronger with age you would hope.

Sure, he might be good for his age, but he's still not good enough, and certainly not doing enough to earn plaudits given that he is playing first team football for Arsenal, not a development squad.

Diaby was far and away the best at retaining possession against Chelsea, having one of his good days, and Nasri did more to start and continue our attacking moves than anyone else.

Wilshere probably offered the least of all of our midfield in the game, though perhaps ahead of the yet again quiet but for one great strike Arshavin.

He might be something one day, but he's certainly not yet.

Not sure which games you have watched but Jack has been one of our most consistent midfielders this season. He is a creative midfielder that is being played deeper than he is used to. He single handedly bossed tottenham and was great against Partizan. He is a lot better defensively that most of our midfielders as well. Not enough plaudits? He just got a call up to the england side and he already plays for the U-21s.

MH returns :thumbsu:

Bendtner said: "Now I'm ready [to train] and it is a great day for me today. Some of the boys have time off because of their internationals, but otherwise I train together with the other first team players at Arsenal and I've enjoyed myself so much.
"Both you and I can figure out that if I had a two and a half month break, rather than going to South Africa, I would have been much further ahead now. I would have been close to playing again, both for Arsenal and the national team."
Bendtner added that je believes he could be playing for Arsenal again in about two weeks.
He added: "I have no pain in the groin and have trained so hard physically, that maybe I'm in my best shape ever. I need only a couple of reserve team matches to be quite sharp in football terms. It's my hope that I can be with the first team in 14 days."

Apparently Ramsey won Welsh Young Player of the Year, which is probably a nice boost for the kid after a tough year.

He's getting close to resuming full training as well.

Good news on the second point... but young player of the year, what does Gareth Bale have to do? Unless he was player of the year?

I don't know what the cutoff age is but Bale is about 18 months older than Ramsey.

And Ramsey is still better. ;)

Hopefully Ramsey can make a full recovery from that chimp's reckless challenge.

He has everything required to be a star.

On Denilson, I tend to view him as more than just a depth player. I don't really know why it is, but players who don't do the spectacular in England aren't really considered overly important, but in Spain, players like Busquets are rated very highly.

When you have a tactic featuring three central midfields, you are obviously aiming to dominate that part of the ground. As such, a player like Denilson who offers, receives, passes to a teammate and then repeats that process is vitally important, as it allows you to retain possession and keep the match on your terms.

I think he's an important player, even if you won't see him doing the miraculous too often.

Yes having Denilson in that sort of midfield is good, but the problem is that we have Fabregas who is the best passer of the ball in the world so having Denilson in there is rather useless. We need someone who can win the ball back, now that Song has decided he is a center forward. Nasri>Ramsey/Wilshere>>>Denilson.

He's gone backwards. He was arguably the best LB in the league in 07/08; he was terrific back then up until than infamous Birmingham game when we fell apart.

Gone backwards only since last year id say and for me alot of it comes from burnout/mental weakness. Looks alot less lively than he did in his early days especially in getting forward and hes never gonna have that defensive instinct that the world class wingbacks do

Not to mention he can't cross for $hit

Denilson and Cesc do not play the same role, so it isn't useless having him in the side.

Cesc plays further up the pitch, and when he gets the ball, he is looking for the killer pass through to create goalscoring opportunities. If he can't find an option, however, then Denilson will have made position to enable Cesc to simply pass it to him which, in turn, allows Arsenal to keep the possession ticking over.

One is a creator, whilst the other is a skilled, hard working central midfielder who allows us to retain the ball by constantly providing an option, and then making a simple pass to a teammate. Moreover, when you mention someone who can win the ball back, that man is meant to be Song. As you say, though, he appears to enjoy going forward these days, which results from the fact that he has a midfield partner this year, rather than being left on his own in the DM slot as in previous years.

Not to our benefit though. I rather he stay back.

Agreed.

I don't mind him going forward on occasion just to make our midfield harder to track, but at the moment, Alex seems to be spending extended periods of time higher up the pitch, and to be honest, I don't think he's technical enough to do that on a regular basis.

I've probably missed this mentioned in an earlier post, but Sagna out for 3 weeks.
Oh Shiiiii we all know what that means....
