Am a big fan of lloris, excellent keeper and is only 25 (could be a 10 yr type keeper). But yes very much doubt he'll come to arsenal, wenger wont pay that fee.

No new Arsenal deal - Robin van Persie

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has announced that he will not be signing a new deal at the club.

The 28-year-old, who has a year left on his current contract, confirmed that he had met with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

But he revealed that they disagree on the way the club should move forward.

"I've thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract," the Dutchman wrote on his personal website.

Sigh

Cant say I'm surprised. I said it at the time, his body language etc in the last few games of last season to me suggested he'd already made up his mind. Then the hammer blow comes with statements such as "I will always love the club no matter what"

Exactly what we heard from Henry, cesc etc in their final few months. It's all too familiar now for arsenal. If he goes to city then just confirms how we're viewed now, just a feeder club. Even if we get £25m, what are the chances this will be reinvested in the market? Or just pocket it again?

Anyway, pretty sh*t news but I wonder (and hope) the club has the balls to make him play out his contract. You never know, a couple more signings to fill the gaps in our squad, and we might give things a shake this coming season.

dating back to vieira in 2005, all of our captains since have departed, henry, cesc and now RvP is imminent. i believe TV recently came out and said he wants to be at arsenal for the rest of his career, so yep give him the armband. is a damn good leader and vital player for us. jack would probably be next in line in say 4-5 years time

the guy has a contract with us for another 12 months. he should fulfill his obligations and commitment to the club, then i dont care if he walks for free next season. we wont get full value in a fire sale this window anyway. and even if we sold him now, what would we do with the money? there's no guarantee we'd reinvest those funds in new players.

because he has a contract, and i would like to think he would have some kind of loyalty or obligation to the club that stood by him whilst he watched us play from the stands for many years. yeah i know im probably a traditionalist and it we wont keep him.

but i wonder just what ambition etc he wants to see - as already we've done more in the transfer market than most arsenal fans would've expected (rather than scramble and buy players on deadline day like last year). doesnt he rate podolski or giroud? or whoever else is lined up next? or that we've already cut the likes of almunia?

or the fact that we're looking (finally) to cleaning out some deadwood such as bendtner, denilson and chamakh etc? lots of upside in the way arsenal has been doing things these last few weeks, but doesnt seem to be enough to satisfy the captain.

I don't care what we sell our players for as we don't even reinvest the cash in replacements.

Make him play out his contract.

agreed benno. like i said earlier, what would we even do with the money anyway? what did we do with the funds from selling the likes of adebayor, hleb, toure etc 3-4 years ago? or cesc and nasri last year? we'd probably just pay off more stadium debt again if we sold RvP.

He didn't show any loyalty by releasing that statement without telling the club why would he change and play all out for the final year of his contract.

this is an interesting read i came across from this arsenal blog:

http://edgeofthearea.wordpress.com/...ues-and-manager-in-the-back-while-on-holiday/

Today Robin Van Persie released a public statement on his personal website informing the world he will not be renewing his contract. While this is no massive shock, the act of publicly stating his refusal to renew his contract (ie his desire to leave the club) at this point in time, the day after his manager has publicly stated that keeping his is vital is a betrayal on three counts. Firstly, the timing and the phrasing of his statement has made his manager look like an idiot and effectively been a dismissal of the players that have been signed to date (despite the fact that said signings have directly addressed what he described as his primary area of concern at the season’s end). Secondly, it is effectively putting in a transfer request in a way that ensures he still receives his ‘loyalty bonus’, by rendering his position at the club untenable. Thirdly, his advertising of the fact he won’t renew his contract before any bids have been made, ensures the club cannot receive a fair price for him, as he has burnt his bridges, thus directly screwing the club whilst ensuring a bigger payday for himself.

All delivered in ‘An update for the fans’, where he professes his love for the club, its fans and pride at being associated with Arsenal. Trotting out the usual line about winning trophies, may hold water this season, but his fitness record every previous year has been appalling and as the main striker since 2007 has undoubtedly cost the club numerous trophies, none more so than in 2007/08, where he ruled himself out for the second half of the season with a celebration-induced injury. Any other top club would have jettisoned him long before he achieved his extraordinary success of the last 18 months. If he really wanted to avoid burning bridges with the fans, some acknowledgement of this fact, and perhaps just stating that like TH14 he wants a crack at the European Cup before his legs go, and a recognition that Arsenal cannot currently afford to pay him what he could receive on the open market. Football fans on the whole aren’t stupid, and footballers continually insult our intelligence in these situations and wonder why we react badly.

Frankly, unless he back-tracks or we still get good money for selling him overseas, he’s dead to me as an Arsenal Fan. Fabregas was always going to Barca, but even when he agitated for a move, he kept a respectful silence, and made it about returning home rather than effectively attacking his manager and MD. If he goes to Man City for oil millions, or the greater betrayals of Utd or Chelsea, I will be storing up a bus load of invective for him, as will most Arsenal Fans. For all the dislikeable personal qualities of Samir Nasri, he never professed to love the club and was never that loved, and Toure really needed a change of environment. Robin has as recently as a few weeks ago bigged up the club at every opportunity, a club that has nurtured his ability and injury problems to maximise his personal development, and made him club captain, and whilst in that role he has effectively agitated for a move and undermined his club, manager and team-mates in order to maximise personal gain, despite numerous comments from his wife, mother and father in the press suggesting he should stay and pointing out how lucky he has been to be at such an appreciative club.

He should remember, its only half about what you do. The other half is how you leave. And while the extra few million might buy another yacht or holiday home, in the long run no one remembers the mercenaries who sign on for a couple of years at an already winning team.

I questioned the Giroud signing, the club obviously saw this coming.

If we ditch RvP, he'll be seen as the replacement.

He didn't show any loyalty by releasing that statement without telling the club why would he change and play all out for the final year of his contract.

Modric went alright.

Time for the club to grow some balls.

last year rooney came out and said he didnt agree with united's forward ambition and wanted out. will never forget fergie's press conference when he came out very strongly, his "cow" analogy was brilliant. shortly thereafter rooney extended his contract and finished 2nd highest goal scorer last season.

and there's also the modric example. it can be done. it just takes a strong club with strong willed leadership, time for arsenal to step up and draw a line in the sand.

Rooney has won plenty of major trophies with United in the past, so United had a much better argument regarding ambition compared to Arsenal.

As for us, we have Daniel Levy, no one ****s with him.

The problem with RVP staying is that he would have already lost the trust of the playing group as they know his just waiting to see out his contract. Where as with modric and rooney they still had a couple of years on their contract and couldn't have things their own way.

Also with RVP decision I'm now 100% sure that walcott will leave.

Not blindsided by this by any means, but I kept telling myself he was different, he loves the club, he'll stay.

The letter from him lacks class, which is even more disappointing. Would be a bit of a circus after that if we kept him IMO.

Hope we sell him to Anzhi Makhachkala, though I guess we all know where he's going (as an aside I don't think he'd actually help city much in the league with the quality they already have, but I guess the extra number will help them compete seriously for multiple trophies).

I hope we keep Vela now and go really hard for a couple of quality midfielders.
