Ok I do wonder what some of you think about ruckman

True that Bev doesn't rate them or simply doesn't rate our ruckman so works around it but with the change in rule of third man he will have to adjust.

We were able to use a smaller man to compete when we could use someone to go in ruck and another to jump over the top but this is totally against the rules now so we will be unable to play a dummy ruckman as much as we did last year.

Bont was excellent at the third man up but now rucks must be determined before the contest and that negates this. We will have to go in with another tall and forget the fantasy of using certain players in this role Coz some of you are so desperate to squeeze them in.

Was saying what he has done in the past. I'd say if BTC is fit enough he plays and if not 80% Boyd in the ruck + 20% Cloke and Cordy.

Not at all perfect and English needs some serious physical size gains before we play him (he seems to know this well too, hope he stacks on another 15kg this year)

The third man up rule allowed him to use that play mate

It's gone now if we use "pinch" ruckman against guys like Gawn and Goldstein we will get destroyed at clearances

I have a feeling Matty Boyd won't play. Why would we risk him copping another knock to the ear? And the rest of the backs are fit and ready. It's the one area we can cover.

My new team:

B: Morris Roberts Biggs
HB : Murphy Wood Johannisen
C: Macrae Libba Hunter
HF: Suckling Crameri Stringer
F: Picken Cloke Daniel
RUC: Boyd Bontempelli Dahlhaus

INT: Jong Cordy Dunkley Smith

I hear that (pun intended) but one thing that would make me nervous/superstitious is don't we have a surprisingly poor W-L without him in the side or am I thinking of someone else?

He is going to wear a rugby type helmet and probably has to for at least a month. So if he doesn't play round 1 then he'd have to miss the first few if you worried about coping another hit to the ear before its fully healed.

I think with the helmet he will be fine to play, would be pretty surprised if he doesn't.

Cloke and/or Cordy. Neither are ideal options and we certainly wouldn't be running that setup if we had an alternative, but unless Campbell plays we don't really.
I'd very surprised if Tom Campbell doesn't play.
You really need a specialist ruckman with this new ruck rule imo

It's not a matter of form. Unfortunately Tommy might be too hurt to play, because if he was healthy he'd be in straight up.

You are right, you need an actual ruckman with the new rule. But when those options are 2 injured players and a kid who hasn't played even a vfl game before, then you start having to think outside the box.

Mark Stevens stated the other night he has now come up fit, I know weird giving he was ruled out a couple weeks ago, but there you go 1:15 onwards

Lacking confidence and touch at this stage. I would play him forward in the VFL and see if that helps

Why would you play someone in a position they won't play at a higher level?

And if he doesn't get a kick forward then what?

How many games did Zaine play on the VFL ?

He wasn't placed out of position to get his confidence back.

And with Crameri and Cloke added to Stringer Cordy Toyd Adams isn't playing forward

Agree. We seem to have enough depth with tall forwards, but with Hamling gone and the likely retirements of the 3 veterans we need to find tall defender stocks quickly. If Adams cannot lift to fill that role ( and even if he does there is no guarantee he'll be around in 2018), we are reliant on Collins coming on, or rapid development of this years rookies. Failing that we must hit the trade period aggressively. Don't want our defence to become our Achilles heel especially as it is the foundation of our game plan.

Zaine Cordy has played 11 games.
Marcus Adams has played 11 games.
I don't think either of them will end up as a forward, usually if you
need to get your confidence back you do it in the twos as
neither player is established best twenty two after 11 games of
football. Maybe our much disgust depth only applies to the
transitional roles and not the key positions.
