Weak men's draw this year, particularly on Rafa's side. And I thought Federer's Wimbledon was soft, he at least played Dimitrov and Cilic on grass.

NID final, but the decent quality of QF/SF for both mens and womens helps validate an otherwise asterisk slam.

And whilst Nadal benefited from a characteristically soft USO title draw, his form in general this year has been decent enough to assume he'd be a strong contender to win it regardless of the opponents. His form in the Del Potro match was stellar.

Well done Rafa, well deserved win. A shame both finals were one sided but that's how it goes sometimes. A bit like sometimes the prelim finals are better than the granny (unless your team wins of course )

For those calling Nadal's draw soft, Federer won about 8 of his slams before Djokovic Nadal Murray Del Potro etc were around but the best player was Hewitt and aging stars such as Agassi.

It's easy to criticise but really a pretty piss poor attempt to demean a great achievement because of unrequited and misdirected love for Federer.

Exactly. Nadal played some great tennis this year, and I actually didn't expect him to perform well on the non clay court tournaments. He just continues to work hard, and he really did step up against del Porto.


Anyway, well done to Federer and Nadal both players had a great year

But it was a soft draw. This was an ATP500 event at best. The highest Seed he played was 24(a very good 24). That is amazing. I would say that regardless of whom won. Does it matter? Not to me. You beat who you beat and Nadal has been the most consistent player on tour all year.

Should we put * on all of Nole, Murray, Fed and Nadal Grand Slams because of the weak generation after them. of course not. You beat who you beat. You should do the same regarding Feds early slams.

Anderson was never a chance had the softest draw in history for a 28 seed. All ill remember from this us open is Rafa winning and maybe the delpo fed game. Well done rafa!

anyway, I really enjoyed Del v Theim/Fed. Shame he couldn't go all the way but Nadal really stepped it up in that match. But outside of that, I can't think of any classics once again. I guess Anderson v Querrey was alright in tightness and drama if that is your thing.

On the women's side, the best match may have been on the first night. Sharapova v Halep. I only watched the end of Stephens and Venus and that was meant to be fantastic as well. The little I watched was gripping and great tennis. Kvitova v Venus was good as well. The WTA has had a great year.

Hopefully, at the Aus Open, Gen Next will be ready in the form of a beefed up Sascha and he can get that big result he needs at a grand slam level to gain confidence. That men's draw will be wacky with Murray, Nole, Kei(among others) all having injury affected rankings.

And heck, the women's side might have Serena and Azarenka in an already crowded line up of great players.

Can't wait.

Kvitova vs Venus was extremely good too. I agree with you with the Maria vs Halep match, still have that as the best match of the tournament, absolute shame it was round 1 and not say round 3 or 4.
