US textbook omits evolution

I always laugh when I see these types of comments from theists.

1) Because they need you to have formal qualifications in theology in order to say anything about religion when quite often in the same qualification they are disregarding much of physics and biology with barely a high school science class behind them, and

2) Because if the bible really were the work of a divine, perfect being. Created for the purpose of bringing his word to all mankind and saving them from eternal damnation. He must be quite the dick to have written it in a way that requires extensive study and a PhD in theology to correctly interpret. Was he not capable of creating a message that was easily understandable by even the least educated person, or is heaven only for the privileged?

As a few people have pointed out, maybe that's why he chose to appear in a non-descript part of the Middle East, to illiterate desert tribes. He could've gone to China, they could already read by then. But no. So logical and all-powerful from start to finish.

Happy Newtonmas everyone!

Not all creationists are Christians.

In fact the USA has an enormous number of Scientists who prefer the pseudo science of Intelligent Design over basic evolutionary biology

I cant see how someone can reject evolutionary biology and still pretend to accept the scientific method - evolutionary biology is close to the most validated scientific notion ever proposed. In fact evolution is a well established natural process, like weather patterns or photosynthesis

Name them. I'll bet they haven't submitted anything to peer review.

I'll also save you the trouble - Intelligent Design is Creationism. The name is different, the rest is the same. Proven spectacularly in a court of law. It's a new attempt to get Creationism into schools.

With Barry Price, John Greening, Wayne and Max Richardson, and Des Tuddenham playing in front of Peter McKenna, why would you bother to handball?

That is a fair point to make and in fact even the Blues didn't handball very much in the first half of that grand final.

Both the Blues and the pies had about a dozen handballs each in the first half of the 1970s Grand final

Things changed after half time with the blues down by 7 plus goals.

The Blues played on at all occasions, something players rarely did at the time. The blues had about 17 handballs in the first 12 minutes of the 3rd quarter. They kicked 7 goals.

The Pies had 2 handballs for the entire second half of the 1970s grand final, as the Collingwood cheer squad left the MCG to prepare for the after match Collingwood premiership celebrations.

Carlton were greatly assisted by Tuddenham's K.O. of McKenna. Collingwood little men continued kicking the ball into the forward line, only to find that after half time, McKenna's mind was back in West Heidelberg.

The thing, above all others which makes this the best football game I've ever seen, were the antics of the Collingwood cheer squad at half time. They ran the length of the outer, in the standing room, waving banners and singing this song: 'We Are the Premiers'. I've never laughed so much at ill-founded hubris as I did that day.

Yes, McKenna was on fire until that point, But from what I have heard, McKenna's knock was minor - it wasn't a major concussion event. He wasn't knocked out. In fact he kicked a goal after that I believe.

There was a good chance that the Pies would have hung on for a narrow win in the end, But ultimately they structurally couldn't handle the playing on by the blues. To counter constant playing on by an opposition, you need your players to chase and tackle. Two things that weren't done with intensity during that era either.

The Pies also kicked the first goal in the last quarter as well, putting them about 17 points in front. Blues didn't hit the front until late in the final quarter,

The way the Game was played changed dramatically after the 1970. GF?

ID is creationism, you're spot on there. But there are a tiny minority of scientists who are also proponents of ID - and that's of course because of their faith. However, while some creationists like to pretend there are two sides, it's more like one solider fighting 99, and the one is without any armour (evidence).

About 12% of the proposed Ark, was dedicated to a temperature and humidity controlled environment that will maintain important strains of bacteria and spores.

Algae ponds were also available. (the 40 day flood conditions and abundance of water allowed for externally moored algae pond cages to be attached to the rear of the Ark)

Fear not Pie Eater, everything has been planned for. Noah was a brilliant man with great foresight and YHWH on his side.

Noah's aquatic vessel design and construction techniques are still used today by the oil tanker industry.

In the meantime, it is imperative that you re-visit the 1970 grand final replay and COUNT the total number of handballs that the Collingwood football team had - shouldn't take you very long
What of the virus which only resides within the brain of a Papuan cannibal, acquired only by eating the brain of an infected enemy?
Did Shem sail off to discover PNG, then kill and eat the brain of a highland cannibal?

To paraphrase the Python mob...."I want you to chop down the largest tree in the forest....with......a herring!"

I'm no seafarer, but I have my doubts about that thing staying upright in a tempestuous apocalyptic flood.
Apparently an expert shipbuilder, as claimed by the fundy nutcase website, not me, is amazed and that such a design would be impossible to "tip over".
That's a technical shipbuilding term which us laymen would call capsize.:D

Changing the subject in order to avoid the second half of the 1970 GFC as well as to hide your poor aquatic vessel design skills will not save you now.

You must face your demons

What were his answers to the beam theory problem?
Or flex problems occurred by an uneven load?

Forget capsizing how does it stop itself from tearing apart?

Cut the poor bugger some slack. Even today, communication from PNG is erratic at best. He can't have been expected to know everything. Oh wait, his know-all tactical adviser should have been all over that situation. You've certainly flagged a conundrum surrounding the emptying of a neighbour's swimming pool all those years (sic) ago.

I'd say 1 to 99999 is more accurate. Even then the 1 is being generous.

I believe the following is an exhaustive list of the number of actual seaworthy WOODEN ships used that match the Biblical dimensions:

1.
2.
3.

I'm still torn between which Biblical story is more ridiculous - the talking snake, Jonah, or the flood. Of course the fact that 600 other cultures have flood myths just makes it more fun to examine critically.

I believe they are teaching kids in some religious schools not to take the biblical stories so literally, yes even Catholic schools. If so not sure the "discrepancies" in the Noah story are all that relevant. The more 'dedicated' believers may think the stories are all true though.

-> Thread starts about evolution / controversy
-> Cue creationists getting defensive and starting mudslinging match with atheists and or science-oriented people (due to creationists being insecure and most internet atheists being overly zealous)
-> Cue thread degrading to point where Godwin's law applies (thanks to trolls/idiots)
-> In the end no one's opinions are changed and all existing opinions are reinforced
-> Conclusion: Total waste of time

Topic then fades away from poster memories and is locked, until.....

-> New Evolution debate arises

Rinse & Repeat :thumbsu:

You may be underestimating Noah's natural strength.
Apparently he could bench press 145kg

The 1970 GF is proof there is no God, as if I needed any after 77.
Lick my sweaty sack underling....:D
PS having an A1 chrisssy eve with the family....they all think I'm slightly ******ed.....which I most probably am. Forum arseholes.:D:thumbsu:

Its critical that you deal with the 1970 GF first - both on an emotional basis and on a psychoanalytical basis

I will be getting to the 1977 and the 1977 (mark II) GFs sometime in 2013.

You're obviously a sadistic and thin lipped person.
70 and 77 are numerically "out of bounds" area in my circle of trust.
Hopefully your current medical condition will worsen markedly, rendering you unable to procreate or enjoy any meaningful existence.:D

How can anyone, with a modicum of intelligence, not roll around the floor in hysterics at this latest episode of American extremism ?

It is hilarious but what is not funny, is how our media keeps feeding us this type of crap from the US of A as if it is important; as if it's something that is happening in our country!

**** me, I forgot that we are an appendage of that decrepit, pythonesque, imperatorial regime. Sorry!

This thread has gone so far off course it isn't funny. Bringing the thread back on topic, to specifically those who advocate the teaching of Intelligent Design in science classrooms:

Why do you view Intelligent Design as science? What aspects are falsifiable, and what predictions can be made from it?
(Merry Christmas btw, everyone!)

As a Freo Supporter my team is proof of god ....since 94 me and my lost tribe have been wandering in the wilderness, only occasionally running into Tigers - yet we endure and we believe.
