All day I've chosen to believe that there is still hope, that there is a chance that this has all been reported completely inaccurately, and that it's all been an enormous mistake.

I'm unsure why I'm so attached on this particular occasion, for I've been sitting here since the rumors surfaced unable to find the heart or energy to immerse myself in something resembling productive. Perhaps it has something to do with being an album reviewer, and consequently having met his partner numerous times. I remember seeing John's media conference when he first received his Port Adelaide kit, and just how wonderful and vibrant his personality appeared to be. He was so intrinsically motivated, he was modest and yet entirely self-assured. It's hard to say why we gravitate to certain individuals more than others, but John McCarthy was one of those people that I followed and took great interest in from the moment I watched that aforementioned press conference.

I cannot imagine how his immediate family and Dani are feeling. Loss affects people in many different and unique ways - and my thoughts go out to everyone who John has made a lasting impact upon. If I developed an attachment due to an eight minute press conference, imagine the heartbreak currently being felt courtesy of the people he based and spent his life around. it's safe to say he will be missed immeasurably.

Just absolutely shattered, lost for words, 22 years old and some dodgy disposal aside had the makings of becoming a great PAFC player with his determination and willingness to approach the contest at 110%. Hard to imagine what his family are going through right now with the long flight over. Thoughts also go out to the team mates in Vegas, especially Thomas who only a couple of nights ago was joking around with JMac in the B&F interview.

Hope authorities get to the bottom of what happened so the family gets some closure, seems a bit off that he was by himself and not at the players hotel when this happened.

R.I.P. :(

PAFC 2013, We Do It For JMac

Hopefully Collingwood and Port can come together and organise a tribute to John in the form of a medal or cup when our 2 clubs meet

Can't get KT's presser working from the website. Same for others? :(

Some of us will be at the club this evening lighting candles and showing our respects.

I'm sure the club, players and family would appreciate any support from others.

Devastated. I cant help but think about how his family, gf, friends and the players of PAFC and Collingwood FC are coping with the loss. It just goes to show how life can be taken at any moment and we should all embrace every minute.

PAFC 2013 lets all unite, get to the games and lets do it for JMac.

I couldnt believe it when a friend told me while i was at uni... my insides completely dropped as soon as i found out it was true...im still lost for words right now, its just :( Deepset condolences to John family and friends

Shattered to hear the news.

We went through this a few years back with the passing of Troy Broadbridge... it's just so hard to deal with from everybody within the football community.

I think it's a good time to come together as football fans and mourn the loss of a bloke who really came along as a footballer this year and really started to string games together.

Rest In Peace, John McCarthy. Condolences to the family, friends, teammates and all involved at the Port Adelaide Football Club.

Hopefully the AFL sees fit to play Collingwood and Port at AAMI Stadium in round one.

His tragic passing received coverage on radio and TV here tonight in New Zealand. Just tragic. So sad. My condolences to his family, and the wider Port Adelaide Power family.

Haere Ra John.

Didn't get to see too much of him over here, but I hear he was becoming quite the good young player for the club. Hopefully his family can get all the answers they need from the investigation.

RIP John.

Hope nobody minds this wallpaper I put together in his memory:

RIP J-Mac.

Also, I'd love the idea of a tribute match between Port and Collingwood every year. BOG could be given the J McCarthy medal.

Very well put together. A tribute match should certainly be a way we can all pay our respects each year. An absoultely great idea.
