Interesting you mention Niggle's retirement Stiffy as it doesn't look like anyone wants to step up and fill the breach. This could be a worry.Like we don't have enough to worry about ready.

It wasn't a pretty tough role for Mattner...and he did some ok things (especially some good tackles) and never stopped trying. Gary should have moved him earlier though.

The players from both teams played their guts out, Collingwood must be given credit for their self belief and never say die attitude

so Mattner got clearly beaten by Woewodin, not a big suprise there as Mattner gets drawn to the ball more and Woewodin tend to sit out as a receiver, Ayers should have made a move a lot earlier than he did. I recon it's a bit tough to blame Mattner because although he looks similar to Tyson Stenglein he certainlly plays a different game and is not a tagger.
On the positive he did contine to try hard all game, got a bit of the footy himself and laid a few good tackles.

Still not good for a vote though

But surely if you are meant to be tagging someone you stick to that player you don't allow yourself to be drawn to the ball.
Agree with you 100% that Ayres should have made the move earlier and that Mattner is NOT a tagger.

I agree.
We really need to develop our younger players (such as Mattner and Reilly), so that they can fill the roles of players such as Bickley and Smart when they retire.
We do have a big problem with the rookie votes at the moment, no ones deserving of them!!!! Hopefully when (and if) Reilly comes back into the squad he can fire up, but for now, I think Mattner needs to go back to the SANFL to get some confidence.
We also need to promote our rookies further, by playing them in a few games this year. (providing our salary cap lets us )
Time is running out, and by the end of the year bicks will be gone

I agree with these votes - and about Mattner!

And yes - we should play some younger players now and then - other sides seem to and often a year or two later these guys are doing ok as regular players
