he has an odd kicking technique, but its usually effective.

i wouldnt say the form he showed yesterday warrants an AFL game...but i'd just pick him anyway as we really lack some x-factor.

Agreed. He may as well learn at AFL level. He does bring a unique skill set that is hardly likely to be completely ineffective at AFL level and he could offer some match up fits for other teams .... I mean he is a fast, 203 cm player who who can tackle, take a mark and has good vision ... they are hardly thick on the ground... if its him or Seaby then I say NickNat every week given where we are at....

Incredible isn't it. Going by hitouts, the top 25 AFL ruckmen average around 2 tackles per game. I just hope Naitanui is able to keep up this pressure on the opposition when he plays AFL. I'm hoping the intensity he can bring will inspire the others kids and will lift our side's intensity level.

Can you imagine having the ball in your hands and running for your life with Naitanui closing in on you. Yikes.

I had visions of Gablett with ball in hand, running like the wind towards our goals, throwing the ball over his head with fear written all over his face as he's being hunted down by Naita. :D Stick him in the centre for 10 minutes and tell him his job is to stop Selwood, Ablett and Bartel from getting it out of there!

I think that I saw something different from Naitanui and he's no longer just following the ball as much.

It was also awesome to see him tackle a player and scoop up the ball over the player and hand it off. His ball handling actually really impresses me, he just controls it so well.

EDIT: What team does Sheuy play for in the WAFL?

You sir, are very observant. He was hovering 5-10 m off the ball yesterday, when it was in a pack situation, rather than being drawn in and it getting past him. I was yelling at him to go and get the ball in the last, not hover off!:o

So what was your opinion of his game swannies?

I value your opinion as you have seen a lot of him play.

He's one of the rare cases that will probably do better by learning at the top level. From all reports he learns quickly, and his physical attributes won't actually be doimished too much at AFL level (if you know what I mean).

Based on wwhat I head of Woosha on SEN, if it's not this week it will be in the next few

Again, thanks to Total Package from EFH for putting this together he is a legend. Here are highlights of Natinui, Davis & Notte from yesterdays game.

Frustrated. I was very frustrated. But, that was because he was clearly hobbled, played out of position. I enjoyed it in the second quarter when they pushed him in to the ruck for him to dominate and massacre.

He looked like he was doing too much thinking, but obviously that's what the Eagles want, but it's not what breaks games open, IMO. When he took that mark and those few others, one grabs, that was pleasing. He's obviously taking so much in at the moment and not being given his head that it's affecting his natural game. As a forward he can look good or awkward, like when Bolton pushed him easily off the ball in the last.

I would have given him a 5/10 for the game, except 2nd quarter when it was more likely 8 or 9, but I expect the coaches would give him higher because he played to their instructions.

Davis has bulked up like CRAZY!

One of SD's best mids I thought.

Solid performance from NicNat.

Didn't do overly too much.

JJ played well, can swing forward and into the midfield and play well.

Notte didn't get the ball much because Gaepan (spelling?) got it alot.

On this point, I reckon its an issue at West Coast at present.

When the previous West Coast of 2002-2006 started to rise, Woosh initially just told them to attack, we were an attacking running machine - it was all very instinctive and well attacking ... then slowly a stronger defensive edge was added.

At present there appears, at times, a paralysis by analysis, a complete lack of instinct and flair in favour of slavish adherence to (learning) a game plan. I understand footy has changed and zones and so on make it more tactical than the one on one style of, say 2002, but dont you sometimes just need to let young guys have their heads?

Listening to Dennis Commetti calling the game the other night, he commented about Eberts lack of accelaration away from contests but sometimes its lack of speed caused by two much thinking! In the last quarter when he ran through the centre and handballed to Cox (for that touched point) he still did so at half pace and you could actually see him thinking about what he was "supposed" to be doing....

Guys like NickNat and several others just need to attack the game, use their instincts and play .... too much adherence to team structures makes ones game too predictable .... imo.

Absolutely concur with the post. Re: the bolded part, like Naita did in the 2nd quarter, took the game on. Look what happened? 8 unanswered goals. Surely they must learn something from this?

I reckon once the midfield is more developed, there are a few attacking options in there, maybe not to the level of a certain previous 2, but one never knows, and the command may be given to attack more again. I would like nothing more than Naita told to go and attack Geelong's midfield, for bursts because he's not up to the a whole game of it, and just see what happens.

It will all change again in 18 months or so

I ahev heard they have instructions to this effect and are chatised if the handball option is not taken.

Do you feel the midfield is also a little one paced?

It certainly appears so at times. A Selwood isnt quick, Kerr finds it hard to run while carrying a tagger on his back (literally) and Priddis, well .... Masten has shown some signs and has reasonable pace, S Selwood is quick, Shuey looked quick in Under 18's, Natanui is quick .... Swift is quick too ....

I think absolute pace is handy but you dont need it in everyone but it helps to have complemetary type players - you dont want a side with, say, 4 or 5 slow short people ala Freo of recent years ..... ;)

I was speaking to some people last night who think Shuey is the one

Great video highlights. I agree as mentioned earlier that if Naita gets a run against the cats he'll definitely bring in some X-factor with him. He's a very imposing figure and so quick and agile. I sure hope they get a few more games into Notte before the season is out. I like the look of him a lot!

I'll head over to the Freo Derby tomorrow, hopefully we can bounce back from last week's nightmare for a win over the old enemy.

I should be joining you there mop! My son wants to go to this derby and I'm only too willing too immerse him in a feral derby atmoshpere.:D

Hopefully a fine day and big crowd then Lach!:thumbsu:

I'll have 1, maybe 2 children, so not enough hands free I'm afraid!
Weak excuse, that makes anywhere between 4 and 6 hands.

Easy work.

Does Nait usually run and carry?

I haven't seen enough of him to judge tbh, but he didn't seem to show off his pace yesterday (maybe he's been told to take it easy and make sure he doesn't hurt himself?).

Hard to run and carry when your playing 80% of the time as a tall forward pocket. In general though he doesnt run and carry cos hes on the bottom of the pack getting a hard ball get. He could run and carry if he wanted but its a waste of his big frame. He lands on his feet and becomes another clearance winning midfielder. Thats his natural game and we shouldnt hinder him doing that
