Waite. Simply because he can play forward or back so he would be much more valuable to a coach. Ryder looks good for the future of the Essendon backline though.

Poor poll considering Wait is 25 and has played nearly 100 games and Ryder is 20 and in his second year as a defender after playing all his junior footy as a Forward and Ruckman.

Right now Waite easily.
Who knows in a year or two......Once Ryder gets that timidness out of his game he will go alright.
Also I am a little suspect of his confidence; he never seems to want to take them on and kick the ball. It's always a quick handpass.

Ryder will dominate CHB & FB for the next 10+ years and if he wasn't so good in defence, would make an excellent Ruckman.
Waite in my view isn't suited to being a Key Defender. As a Wingman/Half Forward or CHF, he's a lot more dangerous to oppositions.
Where we are at right now with our club and where were going, Ryder is the one i want.

If the question was who would you have RIGHT now, in order to help you win a game, I could understand Waite polling a few votes given that he has at least 4 years on Ryder.
In a general sense however, Ryder should be killing this poll. While Waite has been promising something for a good 5 years, he has largely failed to deliver. He can't kick, and more or less lacks the class that Ryder appears to have in good measure.

At the moment Waite by a fair bit but Rydeer will catch up and also make a very good player, they are both going to improve a lot just yet. It's like comparing Dunstall with Lockett here, before they made it...

Ryder will be a MUCH better player. He'll be every bit as good as Adam Goodes if he plays ruck.

After watching Ryder play this season in a few games, i think he has improved alot...as far as i can tell anyway.
Waite is more versitile, as he can be a key target up forward and in the midfield for sections of the game.
Not saying Ryder can't, but he is still developing as a player and will no doubt be experimented in different roles while they have the chance. Essendon are lucky to have 2 great full backs in Mal and Dustin to teach him and lead him to become a better footballer

He may be able to in the future but he hasn't yet. He has been very good down back learning from Dustin but he has done nothing up forward and has been ordinary in the ruck. Waite has played very well both forward and back. Ryder may turn out to be better but the question is about right now so it is Waite easily.
