Both superstar indigenous players; Wanganeen a 300 game dual premiership player, Brownlow Medalist and 2nd in another. Mcleod also a 300+ dual premiership player with 2 norm smith medals.

I'm biased so obviously I pick Wanganeen but I'd like to know others opinions.

Also, a bit OT but how did Wanganeen not make this list?

In my humble opinion, McLeod has been overrated for his career post 2001. Up until this point he was a skillfull, fast, dynamic midfielder. Since then he has for the most part played the easiest position on the ground (HBF) and underservedly won a swag of AAs for it.

Wanganeen won a Brownlow when he was a kid, and played the HBF role when he was older with far more guts and effect than McLeod ever did.

Very, very good one. Wanganeen, just. Got there at two clubs 10 years apart - not many have done that.
I don't think Gavin did himself any favours playing on til the 300th. Wasn't quite the same player at the end.

I'll pick Wanganeen solely because he won a Brownlow

McLeod was "robbed" by Aker though.

Tough question though, ones a Brownlow medallist, the other is a two time Norm Smith Medallist.

I'll go with Wanganeen as I just remember him running through the guts with the flight of the ball, take the mark and then plays on immediately. Takes courage to do that time and again :thumbsu:

Both exceptional players at their best. I've picked Wanganeen because of his ability to do the most outrageous acts ever seen on a football field by either skill or desperation.

That's no knock on McLeod. He's been a very good player for a very long time.

Wangas, only just.

One of the most courageous players for his size you will ever see, got absolutely smashed physically time and time again, and kept putting his head in the hole.

Picked Macca, very hard choice though. Crow bias here, but.........

Far more consistant, remember when Wanganeen was captain of Port.

Macca should have won a Brownlow was robbed in the last round. 37 Possesion game, when that meant something, for one vote. Wangas did well in the 2004 GF, you could argue he could have won the Norm Smith Medal.

Mcleoad is nearing his 350th game, still has to be tagged, or will hurt you.

Wangas should not have played to 300.

IMO these two and Goodes are by far the three best AFL era Aboriginal players. For Wangas not to make that list is a disgrace.

Biased but i picked Wanganeen

Won the brownlow as a kid playing in the back pocket and no offence to Mcleod but Gav got involved in a lot more contested footy.

Should've had his 2nd brownlow or at least shared it with Goodes, Buckley and Roo in 03, cant remember what round it was but remember being dumbfounded when the preview said he was our best player and then got no votes.

Sad how his career ended injured, deserved alot better than that and his 04 finals heroics wont be forgotten.
