There has been some ****ing stupid posts in this thread. Scoring half a teams runs in bowling conditions in two innings is not a flat track bully. He has made 180 in an innings, perfect time to criticise his technique.

Buffoons.

It's right that we should see how he goes against England and SA, but some of the posts sound like they were from drunk people on space beer.

In 8 batting innings he has on 2 occasions scored more than 50% of the runs. His form on difficult batting wickets is unreal. His strike rate in Hobart was conservative and in Perth was audacious,

It seems he can adapt to various conditions.

He is a scary proposition.

If he played for another state he would probably have gotten a go at first class a lot quicker although it might have hurt his baggy green ambitions (not being from NSW). :)

Whilst it's like shelling peas moving from the Sydney Grade comp to say, the Adelaide or Hobart comp - it creates the illusion that an easy passage into one of these state sides is on a par with making the baggy blues.

The selectors have to keep in mind that most of the time a solid shield player in one of these other states is still a cricketer that is of NSW 2nd or 3rd XI standard.

Yeah but the Eastern Suburbs communities are full of as many scumbags as any other, they just have alot more money and influence with their form of scumbaggery.

true that. was having beers at the maroubra junction hotel tonight... a few interesting types in there tonight i'll give you that....

i'd like to think i'm somewhere in the middle....

Got to give credit to him for sure. However he played and missed a lot in Hobart and when he tried to play for stumps in 100 at the WACA he struggled as well. He still has a lot to fix in his game and that's what people are saying.

Why is his ODI record so average? Not saying it matters in the slightest, just curious as I'd expect him to average around 30 at least.

He was picked on the back of T20I form (ironically, he was picked for the T20I side on the back of an ODD game), and pretty much went the slog from the start. I remember him getting out a lot mistiming slogs straight to mid-on or mid-off.

It seems he has his longer-form game figured out to a much greater extent now, and his 50 over form (and FC/Test, as is plain to see) has been much better recently.

LOL.

Talk about nitpicking. I'd just back away from the thread very slowly if I were you.

Not every great test batsman has a perfect all around game champ. If he continues the way he is going he's going to win us a lot more tests than he loses for us.

This is why he'll work so well with Cowan, Cowan will be a consistent grafter for us at the top of the order and if we lose Warner early (which will happen from time to time) he can consolidate with whoever the number 3 is.

And if Warner has his day, we'll be 0/150 at lunch!

he shouldn't be opening, but he deserves his spot, of for nothing more then his fielding, he's the only Aussie since warne retired that I feel comfortable when the ball goes near.

he is also a decent part time leggie.

he will end up filling the role symonds left vacant.

good batter, solid bowler and outstanding fielder

Last Thursday, I commented that he was the right person to be opener on another thread. (This thread now seems to be THE Dave Warner thread so I will limit my comments to this one now.) I went to the WACA on Friaday and saw a magnificent innings.

Anybody still doubting his technique is simply thrown by the audacity of some of his shots.

As a Pom, I am terrified of the difference he could make to the Australian side. Still backing England to win The Ashes next year, but along with the inprovement in the bowling from the Aussies. It is going to be a ripper of a series.

yep got stop this annointing crap. just take it as it comes.

at michael clarke's age there is no reason why he can't still be in the job in five years time, maybe even a couple longer.... seven years from now so much can change.

nic maddinson might be going along at 50-55 runs per dismissal, would be 25-27 and have the possibility of being a 10 year captain.

it might be some (currently) 16 year old whom we look to do a graeme smith and give him the captaincy early and see him be the only known captain for an entire generation if kids.

when we appointed michael clarke i assume those making that selection didn't think he was going to be a failure and out of the team in two years... i assume they were working on the assumption he was going to have a full test career... you would think so anyway. so that means he'll be around in another half a decade at least given the general lifespan of test batsmen.

so i think it's generally better to just take it as it comes. that doesn't mean don't have a rough idea in place. no bother given guys like dave warner, tim paine etc,. captaincy in ODI's or T20 games or Australia A games to have a look at their tactical ability... but no use in the coach coming out and dropping those sort of comments on blokes who aren't even ten games into their test career.

and in any case i wouldn't be too sold on the idea of dave as a test captain. he's likely to have a pretty up and down test career, and i think that it is hard to lead a team when your form fluctuates.

maybe he won't be like that, but you'd have to say it's going to be a fairly big possiblity.

I assumed Micky meant T20 captain. Can't be Cam White.

Huh? Why shouldn't he be opening? It's where he's played a vast majority of his cricket, is it not?

He and Symonds are vastly different players IMO. Symonds was a genuine all-rounder, Warner is purely a batsman.

'Decent' and 'Solid' are not words I would use to describe his bowling. He is a poor bowler, but one of those who may snare a wicket with a rank delivery or a rare good 'un.

Loving what Warner's doing right now but he shouldn't really ever be test captain. He's the type of player that would perform at his best unburdened by the pressures of leading the side. I don't think he could handle a press conference without saying something mildly controversial either. Perhaps give him a run as T20I captain, but any of Cowan, Khawaja or Paine would be better candidates in the future.

The only gripe I have with Warner is that we need to start losing him early 1/3 times rather than 3/4
