Just gone halftime on the replay, and skills have been poor. Should have kicked a few and taken a few grabs. But generally our play has been fine. Not great but adequate. Should have been in front if we took our chances.

missed chances

grigg snap -easy
waite from 40 x2
fev 2 drops inside 50
fish 1 drop inside 50
simpson - tough snap.
fev - clear arm chop

should have gotten 3-4 goals from these in the 1st half

and if we dont give them simple goals from our mistakes (russell x2) then were winning by a couple at the half

and just saw carazzos effort for the save....clap clap. brilliant

had previously only seen the game when i was there, was very down on our performance at the game but now realising we were a lot better

i think in the 4th quarter our pressure was alot harder. prime example is port player (can't remember which one) running through the centre and is just on 50- tackled hard by simpson - turnover. In the fourth quarter russell was responsible for at least 4 turnovers that i counted - that goal by betts, the one hand mark by lade and his kick is intercepted again by russell - are all examples of russell's intercepting efforts.

I agree through the first 3/4's we just weren't there, skills weren't up to it and inaccuracies another thing; something which we often rise up to when we are put to the test.

at 3 quarter time i said to my brother we need Fev further up the ground and Kreuzer/Cloke in the square to create unease for port and throw their game plan out the door. We had pretty much had most of the play from half way through the 3rd quarter, so score board pressure was the only thing missing. Funnily enough thats what happened and we won. Im not saying im a genius, but it was obvious from the outset.

I just watched the game again too, it's so much easier than the first time ;) Kreuz, J Russell, Gibbsy, Murph, Waitey, Judd, Simmo and Grigga- what an awesome last quarter

Jordan Russel cost you two goals in the second with missed time handballs, I was watching thinking how did Carlton win this game, but credit in the last you were awesome.

Has anyone got this game recorded on disc?id do anything to watch this game as i missed it and cant download as got no connection at home atm!

Really think the difference was when Ratts left some players in the forward 50. Even in Pagan days we always seemed to play better when we left forwards at home. We have a young side and they tend to hesitate with their delivery when they look up to a barren forward line. Must be a real confidence killer to be turning the ball over going forward because no one is at home as was the case for 3 quarters against Port. In the last quarter it seemed like players were confident to go quick and direct and it made all the difference imo.

Apparently the stats had us in front all game for hard ball gets, inside-50s and the other general indicators of who's on top. All we failed to do was kick straight. If we had taken our chances (Waite, Grigg, Simmo) we would've been within a coupla points at 3/4 time. I remember thinking at 3/4 time "if we can only kick straight for the last quarter"...

Then we did, and got a run-on, and the rest is history.

And yes JR was brilliant in the last term. 4 intercepts and set up Eddie and Simmo for goals. Backed into 2 contests. And didn't kick it over a teammates head all night :D (although yes he did handpass to Port twice earlier). Loved the passage of play late in the last when he received a handball, copped a big bump (form Carlisle i think) and got straight back to his feet and pumped it inside 50.

I have to say that on our game day thread I said it just before Quarter time (Not sure as I didn't have sound on, but have read that commentators were calling for something similar fairly early)

The Fox half time stats had us with 20 more contested possies
The big change required for this week is that we cannot afford to have 17 more Clangers than Collywobble and have to increase our tackling intensity - which we said we were going to do against Geelong but didn't (I know we have beaten them already but they did have a bad day)

Needs to stay in the forward line from now on. IMO, just buckles under pressure down back.

I don't mind him pushing up into the midfield at times to present an option, but yes, I agree - at this stage, he makes far too many mistakes to be considered able to run around down back as well.

I'm sure he'll improve in this area but for now, we have far better options.

He's doing a good job up forward so that's where he should stay.

Watching the last quarter again was even better than watching it live

I was impressed with Shaun Grigg's dive between 3 Port players at the ball in the last Qtr, the kid showed real commitment.

Disagree. He took a great mark intercepting a pass from Lade on the Power's F50 line early in the last quarter, and 20 seconds later the ball's down our end.
