Re: Watts' last 7 weeks - Jack Watts' Appreciation Thread

I too never lost faith and always thought he will get better and better with every game he plays. Those clowns who bagged him are idiots with no idea about footy. Just look back at the starts to Brown, Riewoldt and Franklins careers, not to mention he was playing in an average side.

The thing that has impressed me of late is his hands below his knees, his speed once he knows he has a little bit of space and his core strength at ground level he seems to be able to shrug a few tackles these days and has taken a couple of good one on one marks.

Im hoping he can spend a bit more time deep and kick some more goals, i'd love to see him come out, kick 6 and just have a real day out!

Re: Watts' last 4 weeks

Said it once, I'll say it again. When the MFC is at its peak, Jack Watts will noticeably the best player. Yesterday a sneak peek of things to come.

Re: Watts' last 4 weeks

8 weeks.

Two goals before/on the siren... the one in the third quarter especially pivotal.

Where are all you knockers from the pre season?

BS.....Still don't think he will be anything?

The rest of you who said we went wrong with him in the draft and there were a few of you, put your hand up now and say you were wrong.

Re: Watts' last 7 weeks - Jack Watts' Appreciation Thread

Big blokes take time. He's a big bloke.

Too many people want instant results (plenty at my club) and aren't prepared to let a kid develop.

Jack's about to toss that doubt in the face of every one of the knockers who've been on his back!

Good win today, Dees.

Mandatory weekly thread update has been done.

I went nuts when he kicked that goal on the siren at the end of the third quarter.

Top stuff!

Seen the replay of that goal a few times and it looks better every time. I admit, the Tigers defence ****ed up monumentally but he was brilliant in making the goal happen.

Nobody else seems to agree with me when I say that he was our BOG this week. Was involved in all of our goals, laid important tackles and was around the ball when he needed to be.

I Gys whenever he handballs, cleanest set of dukes in our side.

Apparently involved in 10 of the scores today, that is a feat in itself, I had him equal with Jones who was great today.

The problem is you could have given BOG to 6-7 players today. This is one time I will actually be interest in who the umps decided was BOg.

There we go, I knew he was involved in a bunch of scores, and they were all reasonably direct interactions too. His hands in the 50 are golden.

Watts is a spitting image of David Schwarz circa 1993... the year before he took the competition by storm.

Re: Watts' last 7 weeks - Jack Watts' Appreciation Thread

The kids the next W Carey.

Correct me if I'm wrong (was a little before my time) but Carey pretty much delivered from debut onwards, didn't he?

I'd rather be surprised than disappointed, so I'll be cautious and conservative, for instance, his contested marking, and marking in general, still isn't A-grade. It's improving out of sight, but it's still not where we'd like it to be. Yet... Dammit, I can't help but get excited!

Fantastic interview after the game as well, has a decent sense of humour and pretty good analysis of the game.

how old are you? when he stuck his ass and took that mark on his chest in the 1ST qtr, thats exactly how WC used to take his chest marks, that kids got champion stamped all over him, he will kick 650 goals.

For me the marking of Carey was at its best when he used to run with the flight of the ball & jump early, turn toward the ball in the air & push the opposition out with his behind.

Unplayable!

Re: Watts' last 7 weeks - Jack Watts' Appreciation Thread

I smile every time I see him take another mark. Another nail to use to put those who doubted JW up on a truss. I could barely control myself watching Foxtel in a public bar each time he did something great or silly A fist in the air or a sharp cry of YES !
It was a public bar with the races on after all,,,,

next week another test to face

Go Dees Give 'em HELL

I thought he was bloody good again, it just seemed as if something was going to happen when he went near it. And he also cares, countless times he was screaming, talking to teammates, trying to impact the game, just didn't have much support out there. Thoughts?
