Yeh I missed that inside info too. I personally think Fraser will get it. I think he is more deserving of the two. I also think he will be more understanding / ready when a younger guy like Pendles or Harry steps up and is ready to get the gig.

Given that Josh unfortunately can't seem to stay on the park due to injuries AND for the fact Bucks has already called it, Maxwell won't be a surprise to me.

I won't be disappointed and for those that might think he might be another Venderberg?? ... oh please get over it. If Pendles got it I wouldn't mind either. But we've got such a good young team skillful team coming up I wouldn't mind a reminder of grit and toughness that Maxy will no doubt supply from the front.

Would be a Poor Choice.

When over half the playing list can look at you and honestly assess that they are a better player than you, its hard to see how you can captain and motivate them, especially when the chips are down.

Its time the Club grew some balls and Pendlised the captaincy.

Just out of interest when was Maxwell last dropped due to poor form? I remember he was out when he broke his leg, and sure he might have been patchy in some games last year but I can't remember him being dropped back to the 2's?

Problem I have with Maxy getting it, is Goldsack, Maxwell, Anthony, Cox and a couple of others (Reed? I think it's him), will all be competing for the same spot, and there is a good chance he could get dropped. So unless he becomes a tagger like against Thompson, his spot won't be guaranteed. That's why I'd rather Harry or Pendles, or even Swanny get it.

Its the truth, when the masses were screaming maxwell was getting smashed i saw an entire defensive unit get reemed (wakelin, brown, obrien, shaw all of them) but no it was just maxwell that copped the abuse from the blind, leader following masses.

For captain i say fraser we'll get it anyway

Cox isnt a defender
Anthony is being trained in the Pre season as a forward
Reid doesnt have the body strength yet
Leigh Brown is depth
Reed is a rookie and a skinny one at that

Maxwell will also get used a tagger/midfielder throughout the year.

He'd want to put on about 10kg in a hurry mate, he looks taller this year but as lanky as ever.

i dont doubt his heart and he will play alot of games this year but he wont get the weight needed this pre season i dont think. Id prefer he plays as a roamer off the flank anyway tackling, harssing and pestering through the middle an dthe backline anway

I'll go out on a limb and say Fraser will have his first injury free season for a long time in 2009, thanks to the support he finally now has.
That said, I have no qualms with Maxwell as Captain...if in fact he is chosen....a few doubts there.

I'd venture to say if Goldsack was given some of the tasks Maxwell was this year he would have struggled just as much. Maxwell's problem's early in the year was as much about him being given the wrong match ups as anything else. Maxwell on a number of occasions was used as a number 2 key defender and he is not that. Maxwell's later half of the years was greater then anything Goldsack has offered up. Even assuming they are level in term's of playing ability Maxwell would still get the gig due to all the intangibles.

Everyone should stop saying the guy has no skill ect, of corse he does, he's got some grunt as well. Something that Collingwood needs more of.

I think they were not so much the "wrong" match ups as they were "less than ideal" due to circumstance. Unfortunately for Maxwell he is the obvious choice for these "poison chalice" situations because he more often than not rises to the occasion and if he cannot he at least gives it everything he possibly has, uncomplainingly and with gusto.

Im leaning towards Pendles to get it or even swanny.

If maxwell was really in the mix it woulda been him last year , same goes with josh. they were old enough to take it on last year , most knew itd be burnsys last season too.

Just have a feeling pendles will get it, or maybe i just hope he will, not that i dont rate maxwell. I can just see pendles as a great leader for the club for a long while

agree tottaly. I remember that game when he was moved on to riewoldt , albeit too late. But he did have an impact when he went on to riewoldt. Same goes with the hawks game later in the year. Maxwell went on to franklin and even started to shut buddy down a bit and beat him to the ball at times.

Its as if maxwell rises to the occasion of a challenge of playing on a bigger name. You have those two examples from last season plus the thompson one in the final. Hope he gets similar tasks next year, as i think it does him some good

Pendles for captain for me, wont be upset if maxy gets it.

Maxy will be in our best backs for a while though thats for sure
