His last statement in that interview was very interesting ."I'm not going to be able too do it sadly .
Sounds like his medical condition stopped him from taking the job at Adelaide.
This was reported last week as well .

Nice words about Balmy.

Oh, and Chris Scott, you've changed man.

AFL 2021: Richmond great Neil Balme linked to senior football role at Crows
Neil Balme has been an instrumental figure in Richmond’s success. But he could be at the helm of a SA rival’s footy department next year.

Richmond great Neil Balme has been linked to a senior football department role with Adelaide Crows.
Balme has been an instrumental figure in Richmond’s three premierships across the past four years.
The Crows pursued Balme last off-season, in a move to help add experience to then first-year senior coach Matthew Nicks and head of footy Adam Kelly.

The Crows were contacted for comment on Thursday night.
Balme indicated last year he was open to the idea of returning to Adelaide and in October said he took the offer “seriously”.
But because of an “unusual medical condition”, Balme decided to stay at Richmond in his “Godfather” role as senior club adviser.
He said what the Crows had sounded him out about was similar to his role at the Tigers.
Balme coached Norwood to two premierships in 11 seasons in the 1980s.
Adelaide significantly boosted its coaching department after claiming the first wooden spoon in club history.
Scott Burns joined as senior assistant and defensive coach, former captain Nathan van Berlo as midfield coach and ex-Geelong coach James Rahilly as forward’s coach.
It is also expected that highly respected fitness guru Darren Burgess will end up at the Crows.
Burgess’ former club Port Adelaide now also have an opening with Ian McKeown to finish up as head of high performance at the end of the season.
But it is expected the Crows will win out over their cross town rivals.

They must have jammed an extra season into the 1980’s in SA while nobody was watching. 😳

He will want to retire eventually.

It's odd that he would want to take extra responsibilities at this stage of his life
At 69 youd think he wouldnt want to up and relocate again. hes starting to show his age, we will lose him in the next couple years i reckon but id think it would be to retirement

He could do the 'godfather' role until he is 90.
Balmie hated phones. He wouldn't have one in his house. He used to get all his calls second hand, then you'd have to call the people back from an outside phone. There were guys, that's all they did all day long was take care of Balmie's phone calls.
Only the top guys could meet with Balmie to discuss the problem. Everything was one-on-one. Balmie hated conferences. He didn't want anyone hearing what he said, and he didn't want anybody listening to what he was being told...

Pretty sure he had already said on the TT Podcast he is not looking to move interstate and wants to retire at Richmond.

Why would he be past that? He's not senile

The industry has moved past him, he's obviously not senile. No it's just that modern business practice, KPIs, spreadsheets, feedback loops, meetings, stuff in writing, accountability, documentation etc has invaded footy like everywhere else.
Balmey's business manual, policy and procedures manual and all of the above...is in his head. Great back then, not so great now.
He should not be lost to footy. In fact his key strengths of calmness, strategy, mentoring and bullshitting the media are all still required.
