We have no heart. We showed no desperation when our finals aspirations are on the line. Forget the poor skills and the fumbles, I'm talking pure, gut busting heart, and we have none. Hawthorn looked so much hungrier than us it was embarassing.

My cousin likened it to watching teams from two different leagues, and I've got to agree with him. That rubbish we dished out was not AFL standard. I'm not going to make any particular players scapegoats, though it should be obvious which players need to pull their ****ing heads in and start playing like the shirt means something to them.

unfortuantley u are right.. although a player by the name of nick maxwell, who was clearly not of the same standard as franklin, showed tremendous heart.. he never gave up.. even tho he copped a beating...

also.. is it just me or did it look like the hawthorn players were actually mocking our team amongst themselves...

the last few weeks are quite sad for us.. i believe we have lost much respect as a footy club..

Yes, I have to admit I admired Maxwell's determination even though he was getting toweled. Thats all I'm asking for at the moment, 100% effort, 100% commitment for the cause. Its the thing that gets you out of a form slump, but the guys just seem disinterested at the moment.

Maxwell gets a lot of flack on these forums (a lot of it unjustified IMO) but at least you know he'll never give up and gives it a real crack every time, unlike the majority of our team atm.

Its sad, but maxwell was actually beating franklin in the third when our midfield provided resistance.

He copped a caning, but he was one of the few that actually looked upset and kept trying all night.

Last night was terrible

Maxwell has been ordinary in a lot of games this year, but last night he showed more desperation that anyone I thought.
If some of the other pricks of on the ground had similar commitment as maxwell last night, we might have had a chance.
It was annoying to watch.
Reminded me of the crap they used to serve up 10 years ago.
I don't mind losing if you have a crack.
How can Geelong come out week after week and bloody keep on winning.
Maybe talent has a part to do with it. Maybe tactics ?
All I know is that I am pissed of buying 5 memberships to go and watch crap.
No heart.
Last year at Telstra they beat us, but even though we lost there was some satisfaction. It was one of the best games of the season.
Even against Geelong in Prelim. We lost, but they tried.
Last night, they just simply LOST.
Like the title says: We lack heart.

there were a few more that showed heart. Burns, swan, pendlebury, shaw, Anthony and didak all had a dip last night. The problem was more skill errors. I actually thought last nights effort was alot better than last week. From the start of the second to half wa through the last we matched the hawks. We got blown away in the first quarter and personally I thought much of that was due to what I consider to be malthouses worst set up at the start of the game since he has been coaching. I thought the side work very hard to get back in it which showed a bit of heart. We simply do not have the mids to go with hawthorn and the skills were no good. We are very flat at the moment and it does not look good but I think to say we have no heart is a bit of a cheap shot.
This side has plenty of heart they are just playing SH!t foopty with no confidence and lack quality in the middle.

We had absolutley no presence out there tonight. I can only recall one tough contest being Pendles (who isn't reknowned as one of our tougher players) and Ellis cannoning into each other on the wing.

Over and over again I kept thinking to myself, show a bit of anger and agression Pies, rough them up a bit get in their face. Just show something, fly the flag a bit. But they showed nothing. Very weak!

You mean when franklin was visibly gasping for air becuase he was utterly spent and then was taken off to freshen up?

Yes Maxwell always gives 100% but he sadly lacks the rest of the tools and we have to get over this whole good bloke crap if they aren't good enough they shouldn't play.

After half time firsst contes maybe 3 minutes in gasping for air? FMD im even fitter than that.

Maxy did as well as any other defender could of doen on franklin last night with that delivery.

A question do you think brown did well on roughead? he didnt win a single one on one remeber also do you think brown did better on franklin in round 7? once again didnt win a one on one

The thing I hate most is how last night Brown, Croad, Bateman, Mitchell, Ellis etc... just recklessly throw themselves in at the loose ball to win the contest while our players always stay back and just try to gently pick the ball up without getting hurt.

Agreed it annoyed me aswell.

Hate to say it but the HAWKS ARE A BLOODY GOOD TEAM TO WATCH.

Its shit that alot of our players seem to be lacking heart and determination. They don't love the jumper/club, they don't bleed black and white, and thats sad.

The problem with the Pies is that their transition from playing brilliant football, like we know they can to the crap that was served last night is all psychological.

We need to remember that it is the very same team that has comprehensively beaten some of the better teams. It is the psychology that is debilitating them. They need to learn that when the chips are down, they need to dig deep and retrieve some of their inner strengths and beliefs. I sincerely thought we'd give the Hawks a good run after the canning we copped by the Bombers.

... oh and as someone mentioned somewhere, fu<k we miss Rocca...

Have to agree about the coaching at the start of the game. Why give the two most dangerous fowards in the game so much space on undersized opponents? Where's the logic? Hawthorn's better skills were always going to be a problem, we just helped them.

i agree mate, it seems like that, which is very sad...

is this a problem stemming from the coach, board, president etc.......

i think its all mental atm, we have been rattled by devastating losses to Carlton and Kangas, but at the same time, i think some players are living on past glories in the fact that we killed geelong and they keep mentioning it wasn't a fluke...
