I will put in my 2 cents. We have been disgraceful lately but that is due to injuries exposing our lack of depth and hence confidence. The young players are tired and we have no legs.

I'm making the bold prediction now that we will still be playing finals next year. Right when everyone sticks the hooves in just to make you all look stupid. The right adjustments will be made to ensure this.

Discuss.

I agree with the first part of what you said, just not the second. However, I admire positivity and bold predictions regardless of how unlikely they may seem on paper, so I will salute you sir.

Let's hope you're on the money :thumbsu:

Not without a decent Ruckman...or two...

In the cold light of day as much as i want us to play finals next year, There is nothing in our performances or desire that tells me we will.

The only way we will play finals next year is if we recruit 10 ready made players and that is impossible.

We have Lids, Jack, dustin, ty,cotch who could play finals, there are a lot of gaps.

I don't think so sorry. Lids citchin Martin riewoldt all get mentioned when talking about finals however it is these very players that were supposed to carry the tigers to finals this year, or at least to more wins than you are currently on!

The emergence if vickery is a positive but you haven't drafted well enough and with the gcs and gws plundering the most recent drafts you will have missed out on most of the best talent available with which to fill your gaping holes. If you get lucky you might find a gem late in the draft but going on past history that's very unlikely!

You guys really need some heart right now too which can't be drafted!

Tigers are in dire straights atm. Just my 2c

I'm confident in what we have and what changes we will make to the list. Our best 3 midfielders can't run out a full season. It's pretty obvious Martin, Cotchin and Foley need another preseason. We should be able to make a deal with a club and get a ruckman. It will probably cost us our 2nd pick but it needs to be done. I wouldn't bother with Trengrove when we need a 2m athletic ruckman alot more than a key position defender. We need to keep most of our draft picks and we have several key position backs on our list we need to develop.

In:

1st pick-ready made 18 year old midfielder
2nd pick- trade for Hampson
3rd pick-205cm athletic 18 year old ruck
4th pick-small/midsize 18 year old forward
5th pick-18 year old midfielder
6th pick-18 year old key position player
psd-Jarred Moore(always like him, limited opportunity, will come cheap, we need a stocky small type crumbing forward)

Out:
Delist/Trade

Hislop
Graham
Miller
Moore(190cm who rarely plays FB, overated skills, overated player)
Thursfield(like him, but we have too many tall defenders)
Gourdis
Tuck
Taylor
Westoff(rookie)
Hicks(rookie)

Probable delistings after 2012 season:

Edwards
Nason
White
Nahas
Jackson
Farmer

2012 team:

fb: batchelor mcguane newman
hb: grimes rance deledio
c: conca cotchin morton
hf: Moore griffiths king
ff: helbig vickery reiwoldt
foll: Hampson martin foley
int: webberley post 1st round mid astbury(sub)

.. as doable as Pia Miller! :)

But I just wish we played with more heart and more poise while we developing. Something for the supporters to hang their hat on.
:(

Funny you should mention her , any coincidence we've been regularly labelled soft ***** since Miller got dropped and Pia assumable hasn't been around ?

I agree we will make a lower spot in the 8 next year.

We have several key players in who will make that 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th, 4th-5th preseason jump. Generally this is when players make the biggest jumps in improvement.

Don't underestimate the effect that another midfielder's preseason could have on Cotchin and Martin, they may finally both have the engines to be full time midfielders.

Vickery who has become a key player could get another few kilos and closer to his goal of 100kgs.

Jack Riewoldt will hopefully be rid of whatever niggle is holding him back. Would not suprise me at all if at the end of the year it's revealed Riewoldt was carrying some sort of injury.

Don't underestimate the return and a few more kilos on Grimes, Astbury and Moore. Those guys with Rance all of a sudden make our defence look a whole lot better.

Even if no one else improved, the above things alone could be enough to get us a few more wins.

I've always thought 2012 would be the start of our finals appearances. Probably finish 8th and lose the first final, but it's a start.

Hampson looks more and more likely to come to the Tiges after yet another dismal performance in the ruck by Browne. I watched Hampson in the game against Brisbane and he really impressed me.

I agree injuries have destroyed our backline, but we need heart and actual effort to win anything.

Im going to post this in the 'trading places' thread as well.

What about Cale Hooker from Essendon? Since being injured he hasn't been able to get himself back into the side, with Hurley taking his spot. He was in really solid form earlier in the year before getting injured, he led the competetion in marks from opposition kicks IIRC. He's athletic and got good size to be a FB or CHB. Could we get him to Tigerland next year?

Lots of positives to take from this year (excluding the last 3 weeks).. However, we are likely to finish around the 13 mark and I just can't see us making the jump into the 8 in 2012.. We have had no injuries to Cotchin, Newman, Martin or Deledio and whilst Jack looks off, he has continued to play. Therefore, our best 5 players have all played out full seasons - now compare that to Fremantle... Sorry, I just think 2012 will be anywhere from 8-12 and then 2013 is when we should be moving into the top 8..

In my opinion we are 3 years away....and here are the reasons why :
  • Jackson
  • King
  • Grigg
  • Browne
  • Graham
  • Edwards
  • Tuck
  • Thursfield
  • McGuane
  • Farmer
  • Connors
  • Morton
  • Nason
  • Gourdis
  • White
  • Webberley
  • Taylor
  • Hislop
  • Miller
  • Hicks

I've seen this before.
It's called "denial".
Until there is a fundamental shift in the physical and mental fitness of the playing group nothing will change.
People are kidding themselves if they believe recruiting will fix the problem. The current players are underachieving. Even the turnovers are more about extremely poor decision making under pressure than a lack of actual skill.
The coach put into place a perfectly reasonable game plan in the third term against Gold Coast, with an open forward line _ the players refused to take advantage of it.
There is a lack of onfield leadership. No one is willing to take charge when things start going wrong, which is why any team that kicks two goals in a row against the Tigers can count on kicking five, six, seven or 10.
It is about will.
Until that is fixed nothing will change. It hasn't for 25 f***ing years.

Hooker has only just got over the hammy. Nearly right to go this week, took another week as precaution. He'll be straight back in next week. Hurley hasn't "taken his spot", having Hooker back gives us even more luxury of playing Hurley forward, as he did for most of this weeks match.

He'd be a good get for you guys, but as a Best 18 player you'd have to give up an awful lot to secure him
