Weaver mock draft

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Let me start by saying, great work Weaver, but:
#3 Ellis
#6 Hughes
#14 Jones
#18 Muston
#22 Thomas
F/S Tuck
That's 5 Mids and 1 Tall, they all sound like good prospects but the Hawks need more talls, especially now with Hay gone.
IMO FWIW
2 Mids + Tuck F/S
2 KPP
1 Ruck

Weaver, just one more question (for now ;) ) - what's your take on Matt Thomas? Seen him linked to Port in a couple of phantoms, anywhere between 30-60. I may have missed him, but I don't think he's made your list. Reservations?

I think you would call that a KO punch.
Some days you're just flat out grumpy Muzza.

Not at all.
With his past lying posts, until he produces the article, he has now compounded his first lie with another one.
Lets see if he produces a link to the article.

waiting ...... waiting ......

LOL. What lying posts? The West content isn't free online. Not that they post everything online in any event. Mate, its obvious you don't know much about what happens over here in WA, and what is or is not reported over here. But feel free to stick your head in the sand while you try to earn some points.

That's OK - you just tell me the date of the story and I will be able to get it.

waiting ...... waiting ......

A fool and their money are easily parted! :p
There was a lot of exitement about the Blues prospects in 2005, but a close inspection of their list said bottom to me and I got on at long odds, thats smart money. Get on the Blues for the spoon in 06 they're good things, I'm even thinking of doubling up. ;)

Post 114 in this thread talks about Elliott.

It was in a Saturday paper, around the time of draft camp. At least 2 weeks ago, probably either 3 or 4 weeks ago in a Saturday West Australian. When/if you find it, feel free to post the whole article.

Nice work Weaver. On Michael West, I'd heard that it was a different knee, and that he'd only had an arthroscope on the other previously.

Agree with your call of Lucy @ #9. I think they've seen enough of him.

Is your assessment of Qld kids based on the national champs or have you seen them elsewhere?

National champs. TAC cup guest matches. The Allies matches. The warm-up round-robin before the Championships which name escapes me. Rembering that most of the good Div 2 players will play one year underage and then back for a second year ... I get to see them 8-10 times or so.

Weaver you did a great job on the mock draft! So insightful, like an afl buddha lol. I'm so big kevved that lucy jumped a good eight or so places up the ladder, and i'm interested to know whether you all think he'll stay in brisbane?

And by the way, i'm just a newbie to this forum so feel free to ignore me, but it feels like there's a lot people taking posts the wrong way and bein nasty. Its so subjective as to who the best players in the draft are. All we can post about the draft are our opinions and rumours coz it hasnt actually happened...so ya. Thats my story.

Cheers and thanks Weaver. Must have taken a heck of a long time, but most appreciated by all and sundry I'm sure. Very affirming to see such a passion for the game and its future.

As a previous (unsuccessful!) applicant for the position of AFL CEO, I'll be sure to seek your guidance on the direction of the game should I ever score that gig. Probably not much of a chance there though as a good mate's father, who's on the Commission, advised me that my idea of relocating Essendon to the Philippines and renaming them the Manila Folders was unlikely to be well received, by essendon fans at least.

Cheers again.

15. Shaun Higgins – Geelong
Never frightened of taking locals and have had a lot of success with them. Higgins has some dash and footy smarts and becomes another running option. A good kick and gives them some insurance against injuries. Likes a goal and will probably understudy Chapman and G. Ablett on the forward flank. May feel that they need a tall forward and that good midfielders will be available at their next pick. Probably hoping that Ryder tumbles. May have to reach for Grima.

31. Rhan Hooper – Geelong
Probably hoping to find a bigman who can play forward. Might look at West if he drops this far. No clear candidates at this point though and they may go for a midfielder instead. Hooper is a good midfielder of flanker with some pace and good foot skills. Probably could do with winning more footy, and at 176cm might not be considered this early. Unlike many junior players shows some willingness to play accountable football and looks to have good instincts about knowing when to stay-with and when to run-off his man.

35. Jon Simpkin– Geelong
Clever around the contests with tricky hands and good decision making. Genuinely two-footed which is a big plus, deceptively quick and loves a goal which is important in a midfielder. Has enough pace and stoppage work to appeal. Moves well in traffic and normally finds the thread-the-needle handball to get a team going. Ended season poorly and his goalkicking, which had been solid, seemed to abandon him a little.

47. Matt White – Geelong
Missing the bulk of the finals series and the under-18 championships will see his stock fall and he will probably be a rookie-list candidate as a consequence. Has good allround game and the stamina to keep going for a full match. AFL clubs love pace in their utilities and he certainly has that.

63. James Wall – Geelong
Tall, thin forward who was a surprise inclusion in the Metro squad but finished the season well. Played one good final at CHF. Presents well and is good at ground level. The lack of bulk for a top-age player is a concern. If the Cats have taken midfielders early (which their picks almost demand) they may be getting itchy and have to take a potential forward. Could also fill-in in the ruck if he ever bulked up.

I'm not sure if I'm totally convinced with the Cats picks Weaver. The names don't worry me as much as having 4 picks below 183cm. They previously have elected to wait to pick shorter players with Rookie picks, but they may pick short for one or two but 4?. I also doubt they will use P5
To me ,because there has been speculation that Higgins is considered too similar to others on our list and we most likely not pick him., id say if they dropped as you have picked, Id say that Thomas or Varcoe would be more likley as our first pick.
