AFL will be cheering for Suns by 5+ goals. Will allow them to have the Giants/Hawks on a Friday night something they wouldn't do for an expansion Cup EF.

Crows v Pies Thursday
Giants v Hawks Friday
Cats v Lions Saturday arvo (much like 2022 allowing for maximum Cats fans making the trip)
Dockers v Suns Sat night.
Cannot have Geelong v Brisbane on anything but Friday night.

Don’t know why people think Geelong v Brisbane will be Friday night, they always group 1/4, 5/8 together and 2/3, 6/7 together.

Since the Suns are playing Wednesday, they should be playing Saturday night against the Dockers.

Cats/Lions Saturday twilight.

Crows v Pies Thursday night and Giants v Hawks Friday night.

why not Friday night? most coveted slot in the game
To make it work for the broadcasters means half the crowd are still travelling there after work - so you bounce down to a half full stadium. No one in WA likes Friday night games - much rather a Saturday night.

Suns will 100% be playing the Saturday night game, if they win on Wednesday. Thats confirmed.

One of the great, modern day bed soiling achievements to miss the finals.

You will make it and manipulate the result to avoid playing Freo in Perth.
Dimma playing 3D chess. Miss finals, get easy fixture next year, go 23-0

It would be hilarious for GC to try to curate a margin the get themselves into the finals but avoid coming to Perth, only to screw it up and miss finals completely in the process.

Surely when aiming for their first ever finals series they just make sure they get there

GC Winning:

Adelaide vs Collingwood Thursday night.

GWS vs Suns/Hawks the Friday night.

---

Geelong vs Brisbane Saturday twilight, perhaps even a mid-late afternoon like 3.40 Eastern.

Freo vs Suns/Hawks Saturday night (Twilight)

*Pies and Crows played Friday night and Saturday arvo respectively.
*Brisbane, Freo, GWS and Gold Coast get appropriate time off.
*No way known Adelaide and Collingwood will accept a Saturday night game to get less time to recover against the EF winner
* The AFL and broadcasters will try to avoid a GWS vs GC prime time slot but tough luck

Giants are the only club to date to play their first final against an interstate club. Fellow expansion club the Suns look very likely to join them.

Sydney-era Swans, Eagles, Crows, Bris Bears & Lions, Port & Freo all played a Vic team.

The first ever all-interstate final? That 1997 Week 1 between Adelaide & West Coast rescheduled due to the Diana funeral.

Suns will get a large, safe lead early then allow Bombres some junk time goals to bring margin back to 3 goals. Gets 8th place and avoids Freo in Perth.

WEEK 1 FINALS FIXTURE

THURSDAY NIGHT QUALIFYING FINAL (1 v 4)
Adelaide v Collingwood
FRIDAY NIGHT QUALIFYING FINAL (2 v 3)
Geelong v Brisbane
SATURDAY TWILIGHT ELIMINATION FINAL (5 v 8)
GWS v Hawthorn
SATURDAY NIGHT ELIMINATION FINAL (6 v 7)
Fremantle v Gold Coast

The AFL is indicating to clubs it will play a pair of blockbuster qualifying finals to kickstart the first weekend of September as it leans away from recent tradition to prioritise winning over eyeballs.

The top eight will be set in stone on Wednesday night but with the hosts of all four opening week finals clear, the AFL could release part of its fixture on Monday, with the away elimination finals sides to be pencilled in after Gold Coast hosts Essendon.

Competition sources have indicated the AFL is leaning towards gunning for an Adelaide Oval record crowd on Thursday night as the Crows host the Pies in what is looming as a bad blood-blockbuster.

Geelong and the Brisbane Lions are closing in on renewing hostilities at the MCG on Friday night, a rematch of the preliminary final that drew more than 93,000 fans at the same venue last year.

GWS Giants are expecting to host their final on Saturday afternoon, which could come against any of Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs or Gold Coast.

Fremantle would then close out the first week of finals by hosting their elimination final in Perth on Saturday night.

Yes this is what it should be. Although I don’t understand the point of Thursday night finals at all, should have Sunday and that gives Suns more of the bye week everyone else gets.

We finished top in 2022 and got to choose when we wanted to play. We chose the Saturday as Thursday is a horrendous slot especially for Geelong people.

Traffic is ridiculous but how are Thursdays good? Travelling fans need extra day off work, kids have School the next day even adults need to get to bed for work.

Sundays you can have everyone over for a bbq as most of us are free to do things.
Thursday night final….. shhh no cheering. The kids are asleep.

The worst timeslot in the history of timeslots.

That is the logical fixture. Adel and Freo will sell out, GWS and Cats will go close.

Absolutely no reason why the AFL can’t announce this now. Travelling fans can start making arrangements. And they could put the QFs tickets on sale immediately.
