Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Surprised wasn't posted but stats against east perth.

D: 35 - Lead overall stats
K: 14
H: 21 - Lead overall stats
M: 6
T: 6 - 2nd overall stats
FF: 0
FA: 1
I50: 4 - Equal second
G: 1
B: 0

Pretty much seems to be cruising in colts.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

How does WAFL Colts compare to TAC Cup? Doubt it's as good, but still extremely impressive stats. If you were getting those sort of stats in TAC Cup you would be the number 1 draft pick, or extremely close to it.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Don't need to see him in WAFL. From what I have seem of him (limited), and what I have heard, his game should translate fairly easily into the higher grades.

Nice not to have to teach a kid where to run to get the footy.

Will lineup early next season IMO, possibly Round 1 (injuries permitting - if he has a full pre-season with the club).

First final today which Claremont have won by 7 points, after being down at 3/4 time they managed to keep their opponents scoreless and come away witht he win. Tom had 22 disposals (2nd after someone with 24) laid a game high 11 tackles (next best 6) took 5 marks and kicked a goal.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

My mistake haha, just checked again and when I first posted it seems the oppositions score hadn't been updated. So instead of being beaten by 7 points they won by 42. :)

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

So far, 3 minutes into the last quarter Claremont getting smashed

Tom Mitchell stats (so far):
25 disposals (next highest is 19)
6 tackles (= 2)

Kids gonna be a star!

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Full-time and Claremont went down by 38 points.

Tom Mitchells Full Time stats:
30 disposals (next high was 23)
7 tackles (=2)
2 inside 50's.

Had 20 disposals in first half alone but in the 3rd quarter when South Freo took over, he and the others just couldn't get near the ball. 9 goals to 2 goals in that 3rd quarter.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

D'oh! The Claremont Tigers are my first love and in all three WAFL GFs this weekend - but that's not a great start and the seniors have lost the last five GFs they've played in! Gotta do it this time...

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Match report:
Tom Mitchell, who will be joining the Sydney Swans under the father-son rule, was outstanding for Claremont and didn’t stop trying his heart out the entire game. He finished with 30 possessions and seven tackles.

Shame the Swans held him back to the 3rds as the senior team took out the WAFL flag.

Colts footy in Perth certainly was significantly better than TAC Cup, mainly because they are generally older (it was an under 20s competition in my day - I'm assuming TAC Cup is mainly 17/18 yos?). The only reason it would be worse now is because the general level of the WAFL has deteriorated and so the star under 20s are playing seniors - even then, I suspect WAFL Colts would be significantly tougher.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Do we (The Swans) really have to give up out top pick for Mitchell? I'm not suggesting he's not worth it, but reading a column in the Melbourne Herald Sun (taken from The Geelong Advertiser), the Cats look like picking up Jed Bews under the father son rule with their last choice in the draft.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...-father-son-rule/story-fn69a32t-1226161343974

Stated here "But as yet no other club has shown enough interest in him to suggest Geelong may have to give up one of its early picks in next month's draft to secure Bews, the Geelong Advertiser reports.

If no other club puts in a bid for Bews next Monday, the Cats can select him with their last choice in the draft."

Given that other AFL clubs already know that Mitchell is going to the Swans, is there a chance that they wont try to select him, allowing us to select him with a later pick?

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Given the amount of first rounders GWS has you can be guarantee they'll force us to use a first rounder. If they don't other clubs will given he's rated as a top 15 pick.

The Geelong boy will not get any high bids because he's not rated as a first rounder, much like Brennan at WCE last year.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Last year we knew that the Western Bulldogs would select their father sons but we bid on one and someone else bid on the other forcing them to use their first two picks.

One thing that is different in this case is that we have agreed to an extended contract with more money involved and this could scare other teams off bidding if they dont consider him worth that much after injury but still cant see it happening.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

I tend to think other clubs will already have their wish list in order, and wouldnt have even spoken to Mitchell, knowing they have no chance of getting him. But that said, if we used up our early pick to select another, that other team that had that player in their sights, may then go for Mitchell. (hope this is understandable)

So I guess just wishful thinking on my behalf.

The pick we have to use for Mitchell will be decided on Monday before trade week starts. No one can take him even if we got to use our last pick on him.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

There is no chance that we won't have to use our first pick on him. Even with his contract, another club will just bid their first rounder because they know that we will get him regardless of what pick we have to use. We should be counting ourselves lucky anyway, given that we are effectively getting a top 5-10 pick for pick 21.

Absolutely true, and I am just thankful that he is joining us, but stranger things have happened. I want my cake and to eat it to.
