PREDICTION: Ben Cousins wont play AFL again. Why is Ricky Nixon so mad? Because if you scratch the surface from the outide like Collingwood did, you will find there is a little bit under there, hence why the Pies have pulled out. Of course if you speak to Nixon (BC's Manager) he will tell the clubs everything they want to hear. and Nixon of all people is an untrustworthy lying squid!

This will prick the ears of Saint Kilda and Brisbane boards, trust me. They wont be thinking yes the pies are out of the way we have him. They will be thinking why isn't he good enough and fit enough for the pies.

Watch this space.. all clubs to soon pull out and leave him strandered.

Edit: With the effort and interest Collingwood have shown in BC since the start of the year, one would imagine the new information is fairly substantial to pull out now.

Sensible decision by the club and board. The fact that Nixon is carrying on shows the Pies have left no stone unturned in ensuring they have provided a detailed level of due diligence.

The hysteria, outlandish statements and misinformation by some on this topic is unbelieveable.

If anyone things this version of Ben Cousins can win an AFL club a flag, well they are dillusional.

Once Nathan Buckley came out a week or so ago and stated his reasons on why not to pick Cousins, that was enough for me.

And what would NB know about BC or anything in house? Nath is no longer a part of our club at any capacity at the moment. He is firmly set in the media, and would know no more than you or I. NB for too long has annoyed me as this perfect man who has never made a mistake in his life. Hence why some of the younger magpie payers couldnt reach him at all.

Great man, great leader, great captain, great player, a club legend and one of my all time on field players.. dont get me wrong NB is a true legend of our club, however sometimes i wish he would be a bit more shh on the topic of the CFC

Ah well it was a nice thought, but time to move on.

We now have 4 live picks in the National Draft to recruit some good kids. Please recruit a few genuine midfielders. Please.

A fit and mentally strong Ben Cousins would have been great, but we can only assume that isn't the case. The fact they hired a PI to follow him perhaps suggests there is reason to believe he will not stay on the straight and narrow.

Good luck to him if he does, I for one still hope he gets a chance and makes the most of it.

Why is it Collingwood never can draft any one we need....This club sh#ts me sometimes.
So we get some kids in the draft and we are still at least 3-4 years off a premership.
Bloody Collingwood...take a risk its one pick he is a champion brownlow medalist premership captain.

What he said^^^^^^^

there would be reasons for the decision, and i back the club. you have to remember at the bottom of all this is recovering drug addict. while he would have added a bit of class to our midfield all is not lost. we still have a few solid picks in the draft like didaka said. we have such a good core of young players that just need to play games together. i'd rather the club recruit young blokes and make them stars(pendles, DT etc) rather than buy them in the twilight of their career. be upset that cousins isn't coming to the pies if you must but don't think the pies aren't on the right track. my predicition is exciting times ahead for the pies. patience is a virtue.

Probably because a 31 year old addict with shot hammys who wont be around when the list matures doesn't improve the list

we can only decide whether the right decision has been made by the club after the end of next season. if cousins plays and goes well all year next year, then..well, needless to say the club have f*cked up.

No even if he does that it doesn't change the risk factor, the right decision has been made, if he is an 80% chance to stuff up again I don't care if he wins the Brownlow.. you have to play the odds

I promise you he knows more about things than you. He still has alot of say and input even if he is no longer a Collingwood player.

If you heard his interview on 3AW you'd understand why Ben Cousins should not be risked.

It's called looking at the big picture my friend, Cousins will not deliver us the Holy Grail. Let a team like St Kilda risk their premiership window of opportunity on "has been hacks" past their best, our future looks brighter without him.

Let's move on.

Perhaps this is a bit of reverse psychology on Collingwoods part?

They did finish above many of the teams interested in Cousins after all.

Maybe because we cant understand why the club thinks its such a big risk. What's the worst that can happen if he relapses? We sack immedaitely, we cop a couple of days of bad press, we put him on a strict contract that states that if he relapses he doesnt get a cent so it doesnt cost us financially or in the salary cap and then we get on with the rest of the year.
Our playing group arent a bunch of 12 year old that will be scarred for life because they heard that a team mate took drugs.
Our reputation cant get any worse - we're the most hated club in the country already.
Now lets look at the positives:
  • we get a proven star
  • we add a former premiership captain to the group who has the experience we desperately need
  • we get a speedy, skillful ball magnet which is the number 1 deficiency at our club at the moment
  • his class may be the difference of finishing between 5th - 8th to being a contender for the flag.
For the sake of a couple days of bad press and 1 spot on our list i think the advantages of getting him far outway the negatives.

spot on!!!!

If this has one thing to do with the board worried about perception or the fact we have had a few players "in trouble" recently i'll ****ing spew.:mad:

WTF are they meeting with the commissioner of police for???

What the hell has she got to do with what our club does?

Unless he is under some police investigation, what was the purpose?

I fear this has more to do with the "image of the club", and recent troubles with players than that they have found out ben is still on the gear.

Just like shaw/didak, a week later no one gave a shit, 3 weeks later everyone is bagging us and saying how crazy we were for making it the entire season.

Now i knew that's exactly what would happen, why the hell didn't our club.

Collingwood need to come out and tell their supporters exactly why they dropped cuz. I'm sorry but after the shaw/didak incident, trusting the clubs judgement doesn't cut it any more for me. Too many people thinking about a bunch of things that doesn't include the word PREMIERSHIP

As much as BC has attracted criticism for just saying this, it sums it up nicely.

Just like the key formula in an investment is risk and return, the board assessed that the risk is high, and the potential return doesn't justify the risk. People need to stop thinking the club is being conservative and is too risk averse and have a look at what they judged the potential return to be. You don't have to agree with it, but look at a different perspective.

Well We Will Look Smart or Stupid after Next Season about this Descion and There is no In-Between

I disagree. If say Saints pick him up, and have an ordinary year without Cousins playing well yet improving them much, yet we say finish a kick away from the grand final, there will be a lot of conjecture.

All i can say is im sooooooo pissed off right now

he was the perfect fit, ala Stuart Dew. hawthorn took a risk and boy did it pay off.

We have investigated him and spoken to Christine Nixon etc.

Why do the board have to act all tough and just give him a go.

im so angry right now, cause look at our list, we are in desperate need of a superstar and over the trade week we have now, that the Cousins deal is off, got nothing.

2009 looks like another fruitless year im afraid to say.

Although, i do think 2010 is our year lol

Shocking comparison.. Dew was 28 (not 31 like Cousins) and only needed to overcome weight issues, he didn't have hamstring problems or personal issues.. Ben's own rehab facility only gives him a 10% chance of overcoming his addiction.. and the idea that Cousins is the missing ingredient for a flag is laughable

c'mon BC u need to stop with the hamstring issues lol. There is no issue there.
Everything else is right

O'Keefe, should he choose to nominate for the PSD, will not last past Essendon or Carlton. He will resign with Sydney if he gets an indication a club earlier than Essendon will take him.

We have 4 spots on the list at the moment and I reckon we will go to the draft with the lot. 11, 29, 45 & 46 will probably see us out.

I think that is correct and inline with Perts released statement

As you would be aware Collingwood has a very clear recruiting strategy to invest in the development of young talent which has been in place for a number of years. While the club will always explore specific opportunities to bring in experienced players to bolster the team, our overriding preference is to recruit youthful talent that will be with the club for the next 10 years.

As highlighted during the recent trade period we evaluated all the potential trade options but refused to compromise our early draft picks, and as a result we will have four picks inside the top 50 (11, 29, 45, 46) in the upcoming AFL draft.

Have a look at when BC joined up .....

Can anyone else hear Kylie?

Tess would you liek the club to come out and say with all our info we are almost certain cousins is still occassionally using and will more likely than not **** up? If so would you then give your money for the incoming laws suit?

We have done enough research, we know all the facts, and we made our decisiom accordingly. I wanted ben cousins but i also always felt teh club would get all the info and make their choice. Its been made and now we live with it due dilligence was done so whatever happens happens.

Note i am not saying cousins is still a user just showing what might of been a reason

It has been stated that Collingwood had put money and time looking into Ben. I am sure that if so it would not have been funded by the AFL.

If Collingwood wish to keep their trap shut thats their choice.
