Still can't believe they chose Hawthorn's first over Carlton's in the Barrass trade.

It feels like they need someone slightly better credentialled than Don Pyke steering the ship more than they need draft assistance.

Always easier to look at these things in hindsight. At the beginning of the year lots of people thought it was Carlton's "time".

I look at it this way when Port bottomed out in 2010-11 it had more to do with money than anything else. We had an assistant coach who was from the Ammos not even the SANFL. Our turnover was so bad due to the dud deal we got from the SANFL.
This is a problem West Coast will never have. Now our finances have been fixed we just need to make sure we don't bottom out playing wise in a huge way. West Coast wouldn't be so bad without the injuries you've had but the Kelly deal was always too much of a risk.

What SANFL deal ruined Port?

I would have taken Carlton's pick but there are a cluster of teams around Hawthorn's level and a cluster of teams worse than Carlton so it will be a few spots. If Adelaide drop another game to Hawthorn they should win I will lose my shit though.

I still remember going to a Dockers vs suns game in 2011 (Matty Pavlich 250th game). 30,000 rocked up and the average ticket price was $50. So.... $1.5 million times 11 home games was $16.5 million a year in ticket sales.

Port looked like a struggling Victorian side Hosting Docklands games in 2010 to 2012.

You think the SANFL was gonna put most of its money on the 9 SANFL clubs? I doubt it when each SANFL clubs salary cap is $400,000.

Also clubs like Glenelg, South Adelaide, west Adelaide all have pokies. So at least rule those 3 out needing Port Adelaide power money.

I don't think the AFL need to step in and save west coast. On field they have been bad for 4 seasons.

But off field? Well this isn't Port Adelaide of 2008 to 2011 when they lost 2 to 3 million dollars a year. Port Adelaide in 2012 lost 6.5 million dollars that season.

West coast eagles are making profits. Last I heard, they have 50 to 60 million dollars worth of assets.

West coast won't bleed to death anytime soon. Not financially anyway

They were actively trying to get the license transferred to Tasmania all due to their petty hatred for Port. The SANFL were doing everything in their power to destroy the club.

When the AFL clubs eventually went to Adelaide Oval, the SANFL got paid out for the 2 licenses, sold Football Park and I believe got a huge payout. That money went somewhere, probably paid off SANFL debt.

Not sure you realise the level of animosity there was and still is to a degree.

That Norwood AFL or VFL bid was in the early 1980s. This was when Norwood finally broke their 25 year flag drought in 1975.

They then won Further flags in 1978, 1982 and 1984.

If there was any other club that had a massive fan base like the Port Adelaide magpies in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, It was Norwood.

I follow South Adelaide in the SANFL. And I even know if there is one other club in the SANFL that could have their own AFL license, it would be the Norwood red legs
