It showed that we really needed him last week pressure wise. His form definitely hasn't been as good as last years... so I'm not expecting that this week. The reason I ask in advance to the game is the approach to playing him.

With the whole 'calf' situation does that mean after a week out he'll be rested and a lot better?

Was the calf injury a spin to cover the fact that he had indeed been dropped (implied by the media) for poor form. If so is his reintroduction the realisation that we need Leon at all costs in our team, despite obvious injury concerns?

Or was it just a routine rest to keep him fresh for the finals?

Either way a lot more exciting with him and medders in the team.

btw i didn't think he was the worst against the cats but then again im extremely biased.

Genuinely curious on opinions

Even though he has had a bad start to this year according to some, his forward pressure has been up every week.

As long as he busts a gut tommorow and applies pressure in the forward 50 then im happy.

The injury was "sincere", whether it was a calf or not, I don't know, but many commentators said he grabbed at his lower leg early on in the Geelong game.

What to expect tomorrow from Leon?

MAGIC.

No idea.

And therein lies a problem trying to forge a side that can win finals.

I definitely think he was limited by an injury leading up to getting dropped. This and his move into the forward line where it's harder to work through form issues as a small forward makes for some inconsistent form. Would love to see him released onto the ball when he's struggling but he needs the fitness for it and who knows where he's at with that.

All i'm expecting from Davis this week is a strong defensive performance. This is absolutely critical against the Dogs and if he puts in a strong performance in this aspect of the game he's justified his position. Anything outside this is a bonus IMO.

Yeah, agree with all that.

We did seem to miss his forward defensive pressure quite a bit last week.

He has such potential to be the X factor..it's so frustrating that he can't be more consistent with that, esp in the big games where we really need his influence and skill.

My hypothesis:

- I think Leon cannot play the forward pocket role, it just does not suit him. He is a midfileder and he cannot spend so much time starved of the ball as it affects
- Our new zone designed to keep it in the forward half requires forward 50 pressure this means Leon needs to be in the forward 50 the whole game for his chasing and tackling as he is the best option.
- Once Dick comes into the side he will take that role and Davis can be part of the midfield rotations or play a higher HFF role.

Hopefully he pulls out so i get the 140 for Rockliff who is sitting on my bench in SuperCoach....actually no i'd rather see leon play and play well.

I hope Leon has recovered a bit from whatever was hindering him, i'm suprised he is named i would have thought the Dome wasn't the best place to be playing coming back from a soft tissue injury.

Half a dozen or more forward 50 tackles and a couple of goals from Leon and we go a long way to getting a result tommorow, with the way the Dogs launch out of the backline we'll really need his pressure to contain them.
