There have been a lot of seriously talented players around in last 25 years and even more so last 50. Ablett Jnr is just one of dozens of them we been blessed to see.

I’d personally have Ablett above Judd in kicking, handballing, marking, reading the play, core strength, goal sense, timing, lateral movement, endurance, spacial awareness and player envolvement. With Judd being ahead in only a few areas such as top speed, explosiveness (barely, and only pre-OP) and leadership (subjective)

But Ablett maintained a higher level for longer.

Judd has never been the goal threat that Ablett is. Kind of balances out any pace advantage.

Genetics in being the son of God. Mind you if you ask any Geelong fan he would have lasted right through to the rookie draft if he wasn't picked by them under father son he was that bad as a junior.

I think if you ask most on here who were old enough to know what was going on back then, it would more likely range from very late first round to somewhere in the second. Any higher would have been based purely on his name.

The one absolute standout for me when he first started playing was his refusal to throw the ball away when being tackled or under immense pressure.

It's like he and Sam Mitchell had it hardwired into their footy DNA that if you panic and turn the ball over, it wastes too much energy getting it back.

There is Ablett jr and then there is daylight....at his peak he is by far and away the best player we have seen in the past 25 years and certainly in the top 5 of the past 50 years! The great football tragedy was he wasted his time up the Gold Coast for so long...no finals appearances since 2010 and footy has been the loser!

His old man was still playing 25 years ago and kicking tons. Having said that, I thought the old man was a much better player to watch pre 1993.

Judd also had a much better year in 2011 than the likes of Priddis and Cooney did in their Brownlow years. Juddy got screwed over in 2011 anyway so 2010 cancels that out.
