Not just having a go for the sake of it, but I'm seriously suprised by Collingwood's performance today. Before the season started I thought this could be there year, or they'd at least be one of the top 4 sides, but they really seem to get stranded sometimes and can't find a way out of it.

I'm aware of their record against Sydney so please don't use that to troll this thread, I just want some opinions on where they're at and if anyone thinks they will seriously challenge within the next year or two.

I don't want to use injuries as an excuse, because it's weak and there is more to it than that.

But we're generally playing alright in the midfield, but going forward we have: Cloke, Rocca, Medhurst, Thomas, Didak, Rusling all injured. Davis is a full-time midfielder now, Anthony can't take the best defender... and we have nobody else really. Too many injuries in the one part of the ground has seen us break down every time we go forward.

Throw in injuries to Fraser, Johnson and a few others at certain times, as well as the fact that Malthouse keeps playing Leigh Brown (is equivalent to the opposition having 3 extra players)...

Nonetheless, we're not good enough.

From what i've seen so far it's looking like a mixture of malthouse's coaching, young player's and i feel a bit of backroom unrest. Cant really see us challenging in the next five years at this rate, let alone one or two.

We just dont have the game plan to take it up to any of the quicker teams, as essendon showed against the likes of hawthorn, etc. you have to move the ball on as quick as you can yet we seem to stop and prop most of the time. And yes, i'm looking forward to playing the swans because we can at least go in with a bit of confidence.

injuries mainly.

Questions need to be asked in areas, kicking 1 goal in a half isnt good enough. Alot like hawthorn. mix of injuries and heart.

hopefully the hawks have had theirs start beating, and int he coming weeks the pies will also

easy they are crap ! end of story

no forwards , no ruckmen, poor on ballers and a coach on the way out

we're ****ed for this year i'm afraid.
2 big losses in a row is rare for the pies and i reckon it is now definitely MM's last year at the club.
interestingly, shane wakelin on sen said yesterday that if bucks had the choice of 4 clubs to coach at the end of the season then hands down he'd choose the pies regardless of $$$, no competition at all.
all i can say is that they need to start the process now and get some sort of apprenticeship/handover happening.

Collingwood injuries:

Cloke - over-rated (2-3 weeks)
Davis - hot and cold but a good player (test)
Didak - good player (1 week)
Fraser - average ruckman (test)
Johnson - average player (3-4 weeks)
Medhurst - good player (test)
Rusling - not a senior player (test)

6 senior players injured, most not long-term. Didak and Medhurst are good players missing, Davis also a reasonable player out, should easily cover the others.

We went in against Geelong without Harvey, Wells, Campbell, Smith, Hansen, Pratt, Rawlings. Others missing as well who are not quite in our best side yet. We aren't making lame injury excuses though and weren't playing a second rate side either. :p

They are a team of very few stars that relies on a strong, consistent team effort week-after-week.

They're not giving that at the moment.

Davis played today.

The short answer is injuries.
The long answer is Malthouse.

I believe we have the list to challenge if we inject some new blood at the top.

Ah, so its alright to blame injuries when Collingwood have them, but its a premiership hangover when other teams have them. Interesting theory......

Think you're being a bit rough with the player ratings. Davis, Didak & Medhurst are all very good players in my book. Fraser on his day is as well. The "Hot and Cold" tag is more suitable for him. Agree with the rest though.

Although Davis played anyways

Davis played. Medhurst and Didak are the only top players out of today's side.

We have outs too.

If they don't win next week against the Eagles at Subiaco, they can almost forget about the 8 for this season. They were bound to have a down season soon anyways, it happens when you have young players and below average experienced ones (e.g. Fraser, Maxwell, L. Brown, Rocca). Shaw has been very poor this season, same goes to Cloke and many others. Can't believe they recruited Corrie and Brown, made their list worse off.
