me and my mate who barracks for Essendon are having a disagreement he thinks that Whelan is a dud me saying the same about Laycock, Whelan has never been or never will be a superstar but i think he's underated just puts his head of the footy and gets the job done where as Laycock just runs around looking lost with that ridiculous hair cut...so who would you rather on your list? preferably non Melbourne or Essendon supporters

I don't hate Laycock like most and actually think he's potentially a decent player if he tried a bit. But I have no respect for the way he goes about it, whereas Whelan is the opposite where he perhaps lacks natural talent but could never be called soft or lazy. So, despite flattening Bally last year, I would want Whelan in my team every day of the week.

Ridiculous poll as they are 2 completely different players. However, the question is there to be answered, and i'd go with Laycock. Whelan tries hard but will never be anymore than a run of the mill player, nothing against him, that's just his ability. Whereas Laycock, while only showing it in glimpses, is younger and still has the potential and ability to be something more.

No team would choose a 30 year old, injury prone half back flanker that is finished and has nothing else to offer. He's never been much good at any rate, unless you count sniping opposition star players as a valuable trait.
