When does the blowtoch get applied to John Longmire?

How much of the blame for Saturday's disaster lies with Longmire?

When you say "he's had a talented list", you disregard the work he and his coaches have done to take a list that is 75% made up of low picks, moneyball trades and rookies and keep them as a powerhouse. How is one flag and two GF losses a bad record in the era where Hawthorn dominated? They should have won in 2016, but the fates weren't smiling on them.

We have had the team but not the luck you need to win a flag.

You don’t just hold onto a coach cause they once won a flag. If he’s run out of tricks, then someone else needs to come in. It doesn’t detract from him being a good coach at one point. Anyway, this is just speculation at this point, but I don’t understand why you would be troubled by the idea that he may be past his use by date

In the 7 seasons Longmire has been in charge prior to 2018, Sydney have been a top six side (playing at least two finals) every year, have made 4 prelims, and 3 GFs. No other coach in the league right has kept his team "up there" in contention like Horse has.

It was the frees not paid to Sydney. Particularly the 3 leg breakers, the dozen throws, the poleaxing of Kieren Jack after a mark.....
Those 3 contact below the leg frees are arguable, and all took place in the middle of the ground. As pissed off as you were with those non-decisions, I was just as pissed off with the 720 degree tackles JK and Buddy were able to get away all game and never once pinged holding the ball (two of which directly resulted in Swans goals). And Kieran Jack kicked that goal anyway - nothing wrong with making him earn it.

It wasn't a 1 point loss, it was 4 goals and should have been more given our domination in the 2nd half. Swans gambled heavily on underdone players and got sweet FA from them - that was far and away the most telling aspect of the match (and the whole 2nd to the ball all game bit). Horse was particularly pathetic post-game with his ump whinge, when in truth he should have looked within at match-committee selection and also in match-ups around the ground for his failure to win that particular flag.

Onto the blowtorch on Longmire, I think he still has credits in the bank due over the course of his time as senior coach. Losing COLA and the academy advantages have certainly impacted Sydney's ability to develop a list capable of contending (these two issues have just started to bite). The next 4 weeks will tell a lot about Horse's long term viability as senior coach.

The idea that a club could not commit an on field breach in two and a half quarters is laughable. Scott Jeffrey deserved the Norm Smith that day.

It lives in history as one of the AFL's most embarrassing days.

And Jack didn't kick the goal.

Nothing says domination like being one point up with seven minutes to go when the opposition has been down a rotation for the last quarter and you've had a record breaking umpiring differential.

When you're first to the ball most of the day, you concede less frees. It's not rocket science.

Your mob bottled it big time on the biggest stage.

21 frees to 8, of which 7 were play on advantage and 3 were paid in the last minute of the game. Yep, 11 frees to 8 - some record that lol.

You lost the unloseable GF as hot favourite, just like 2014. Won't be going back there any time soon (neither are we but by Christ we made it count).

Lost it at selection table and then shat the bed on the biggest stage. End of.

8 free kicks for the day. None for 2 and a half quarters.

Hey but you guys were #ohsobrave.

Easton Wood. #ohsobrave.

Clay Smith. #ohsobrave.

Everyone can be #ohsobrave when they know they won't be penalised.

It was an embarrassment for the game.

Actually I think you'll find the count was 21-8, which is a record differential in a grand final in the AFL. It's not a solid argument when you look at (really shaky) exclusions exclusively from your side.

Hard to win flags without COLA and getting academy players for much lesser picks. Not to mention Barry Hall 'in play' lol

Actually I think you'll find the count was 17-8, which is a record differential in a grand final in the AFL. It's not a solid argument when you look at (really shaky) exclusions exclusively from your side.
Free kick differential was more lopsided against you in 2012 but you won. Horse underestimated his opponent in 2016 which is why he arrogantly selected Mills and McVeigh despite both being lame ducks and then playing like it - gamble failed massively. But yeah, umpires lol.

Don’t like him. His team are perennial blockers in marking contests. You could see Sydney’s defenders trying to block Hurley from following Franklin on a lead on Friday night. It’s cheating and astonishing that it’s still happening since Clarkson has publicly called it out. Coaches who preside over perennial cheating tactics should come under scrutiny. (Inb4hirddrugssaga)
Cheating now there’s something an ex coach or two of yours will know about.

21-10 is a smaller differential than 21-8
You wrote 17-8 in your last post. Irrespective, as I said previously we had 7 play on advantage frees so no impact on the game at all. And 3 frees in quick succession in the last minute when the game was done and dusted. So in real terms it was 11-8 - some frees were missed for both teams and Sydney also got a horrible score review handout at a crucial time.

Selecting 20 fit and ready players and 2 lame ducks was crazy, but we're eternally thankful to Horse and his match committee for the arrogance at the selection table. Was crucial to the final result, as evidenced by our far more even spread of contributors and our ability to burn Sydney off in the last qtr and run the game out.

No, in real terms it was 21-8 with the Bulldogs not having a free against them for over a half.

Lol what bs

Dogs get more $ from the afl than any club bar the expansion sides

And they just included a flag in 2016

Don’t even care the count was so lopsided, Sydney had about 15-20 missed frees

One side had umpiring, the dogs could do as they please that day

It was a joke and a farce, the amount of neutral fans who normally hate us and have agreed and sympathised over the years is staggering

AFL wanted a fairytale and got it. If they umpired the finals properly to be fair gws probably win the flag and beat us

The suggestion that success is measured on flags and flags only, is romantic but completely illogical.

In 2012 we deserved the free kick differential. We bashed up Hawthorn that day. Interestingly 2 years later when they bashed us up, the free kick differential was marginal. Then 2 years later again we saw the greatest umpiring farce in the history of the game.

But the Bulldogs were #ohsobrave.
