I started this thread suggesting that perhaps he should be given a go in the seniors to establish one way or the other whether the dud has any ability at AFL level.

Getting exctied about playing well in the VFL in your third year, as I said, big deal.

He was the no 8 draft pick so you would hope he would play well at that level. .

i do have some doubts with this kids ability but just love his attitude
he played some good to very good footy last year and played some horrible footy.

yes he was a # 8 pick and still only 20 a longway to go before we throw this one out.

i understand your oppinion but my oppinion is lets wait and see at least 2 more years with this one

I agree with acr2751.

The guy's come off his first full preseason and is only 20. He is starting to get his confidence back and playing the footy he did as a schoolboy. WCE and the dogs had him as their first pick as well, so it wasn't only Richmond that saw a lot in him.

He is super quick, courageous, can take a good overhead grab. His disposal is pretty good but YES his decision making has been woeful.

But we can work on that, as other areas of his game are ok. Sausage Roll's take on him would lead you to think the guy has nothing going for him. Many disagree and I am one of them.

Two more years for JON! And get off his back.

Interesting to go back and read Weaver's phantom draft for 2005, where he had JON at no.10. He also had Cleve Hughes at no.6 , Gus at 33 and Cass 34.

He has improved by 100% since i saw him in the preseason cup to when i seen him play against collingwood in the vfl last week and i think mcmahon has taken him under his wing and taught him a few things because there was plenty he did that reminded me of the way mcmahon plays.

You obviously haven't watched him very closely. He's actually good in contests, and he runs hard to receive. That's what you want in a HBF. Frankly, I don't care if he plays at all this year. I like the fact our young blokes are starting to get the chance to develop and mature physically at a lower level rather than being thrown to the wolves early because we have no other options. How many West Coast 21-year-olds have we seen making their debut and looking good, and mature, and us thinking 'where did he come from?' If the powers that be believe in him, and it seems that they do, then I'd prefer they wait until he's smashing the door down.

King trained well Wednesday by all accounts.

I think they have their final session today(?) so that'll be the clincher if he can get through training.

But I'd say if it pisses down and King is out we would go a small, which would equal young Trent Cotchin.
