Mixed in with many other threads is the notion that we should recruit a decent midfielder, partially to replace him who should not be mentioned. The consensus seems to be that we need to trade for an A-grade midfielder. Who should it be?: discuss.

My view is that we need a big-bodied, finals-ready type, something along the lines of Riciutto, and several current players who are, however, too old for us. There seems to be a view that Neale seems gettable, but is he really A-grade and of the type we need? We seem to already have many of his type.

I think Brad Crouch has the potential to be this player but we need to be patient. You can not just click your finger and have one pop up. He will have to be developed.

CEY also could turn into that A Grade midfielder.

Rory Sloane but he now needs to step up as our go to guy.

Sloane is already an a grader.

We should grab anyone if available, as can never have too many & always room in the side for quality.

Problem is to get quality you have to give up quality if if is via trade.

Sidebottom is a FA isn't he? Makes him an obvious target.

Any other quality midsFA this year?
If we think we are challenging after the 2016 season, trading in a readymade a grader is worth it... But otherwise we would be better off drafting.

Sidebottom would be worth offering a very attractive deal to. Doubt we can prise him from the pies but worth a serious go.

Let's just see how B. Crouch goes injury wise and our youngsters M. Crouch, D. Gore, R. Knight, W. Milera and even T. Doedee measure up in 2016 before we get too excited about any particular players...Lachie Neale whilst a very good player I'm not sure he's the kind of mid I'd be targetting personally.

CEY and Jarryd Lyons I think are playing for their ongoing career at the AFC in 2016...I can't see either having a future at the AFC if they don't establish themselves in 2016.

Jonty Scharenberg is the obvious one in next year's draft if we have the "collateral" to pick him up.

SA lad George Hewett is a very good footballer that's never going to get a fair crack at the Swans, reckon we could pick him up relatively cheaply at the end of next season.

We can't afford to play wait and see, recruits are targeted at least a year out. If there is a known quality player we can get we get them, no doubt about it. We have a shit load of cash and you can never have enough quality mids.

Yeah but he will have a new challange next year. He could get tagged every game now Danger is gone.

If we were to recruit one....

Daniel Rich from Brisbane Lions
Jack Ziebell from North Melbourne

Nether are A graders but would add midfield depth

Can not see us getting Sidebottom to even consider a move.

It won't just come down to the "money" so much as having the "collateral" to satisfy their clubs to trade unless their FA's, and that's without the perceived "stigma" a lot of interstate players seem to have to living and playing in Adelaide. Just who are these A grade midfielders we have a realistic chance of attracting??

Ziebell for mine, although I doubt he'd move. Rich I can see moving, not to us though

That's a different point to waiting and seeing how our players go.

Agreed it's tough and that's why we rarely get anyone but it shouldn't stop us trying. Besides if Port can get players to come to them it's not impossible getting players to Adelaide

Ziebell could be Norths captain. Sidebottom is more realistic

Unless he hates Buckley, I can not see him leaving bthe Pies.

We could not pry a home sick SA lad out of Collingwood, we wont get Sidebottom to leave.

Will we though? We might have a good bit of salary cap to spare at present, but for some while now, I've been thinking/getting the feeling that if the recent recruits and draftees we've brought in achieve their potential, we could have 20 players on our list who could potentially command big salaries.

That's different to other clubs? If we haven't got a lot of coin after Danger leaving there is something desperately wrong
