They are pretty much the same. I truly believe Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon are the 'big 3'; and that Richmond no longer should be part of the 'big 4'. Maybe Geelong/Hawthorn could be part of it; but they'd need sustained success for at least another 15 years to be considered.

Essendon Vs Carlton. Ever since the 99 Prelim Final there has always been a massive rivalry between the 2 clubs.

Yeah I think the big 4 has become the big 3 now - Coll, Carl, Ess.

The only thing Richmond retain is a large supporter base, which has been dormant for the past 30 years.

But Coll v Carl definitely the biggest rivalry. It really bugs me how the AFL always schedule Coll v Rich for rivalry round, when the whole nation understands Coll v Carl as the two most spiteful rivals.

And where's Coll v Ess as a rivalry?

For me, Coll-Ess hatred intensified while Carlton were swimming at the bottom for most of this decade.

Coll-Ess have a few things to hate each other about:

- 1990 GF
- Yearly ANZAC clashes
- The battle to be the most popular and richest Victorian club

hmmm, i think if you have a look at the books, a Certain club located in Mulgrave has overtaken the pies in that area

of corse, fi the Anzac clashes werent their, i doubt there would be such a big thing for Pies and Dons fans.

Ok I still don't see how Hawthorn is the largest.

I bring up membership because membership equals revenue.

I bring up crowd attendances because they bring in revenue.

When the media reported Essendon's Samsung deal, they said it eclipsed Collingwood's combined deal with Wizard and Emirates, not Hawthorn's combined deal with Tasmania and HSBC.

This is the first time I have heard anyone say that Hawthorn is the largest and richest club in Victoria.

Anzac day? lmao any victorian club playing on that day would get close to 90,000. This year CFC vs CFC got 78,000 and 80,000 crowds. whats that, 158,000!!! imagine if we got the extra 10k that roll up on ANZAC day.



Essendon are just the third wheel in the Carlton and Collingwood rivalry. You wish people hated you, but the reality is, they dont give a rats tossbag!
