There have been a lot of threads judging who is the better player or who had the better midfields however this poll is judging who had the best team.

Something to consider when making your vote: Do not compare the teams, rather compare the teams against all of the other teams in the comp during the time that they dominated!(e.g. it is pointless comparing Geelong and Brisbane because there game styles were different and they played in different times, just compare who had the better team during the time that they dominated the league)

Also I would prefer if people from other teams did not come on here and bombard this thread with useless comments like, the best team was Essendon in 2000(I am not having a go at Bombers fans I just used that as an example). You may come on here and vote and give your opinion but do not go off topic!

Anyway enough of me carrying on, let the voting begin!

I love Brisbane, second team, Redden + Rockliff (favourite non-Cats) etc, but Geelong. Why? We've won minor premierships, better competition, no tanking, no AFL assistance, more AA if IIRC, still the best after 5 yrs (whereas Brisbane were gone after 4), we have more young guns, we had to bring in a new coach, we lost our best player, no morphine etc ;)

No disrespect to Brisbane at all.

And in the process of writing all that, I forgot about WC. Geelong

I used to think Geelong but Ive changed to Brisbane
The fact is geelong may have been a more skilled and dominant team but Brisbane won three in row which IMO makes them better. Because the better teams win more when it counts.
But you could easily make a case for geelong
I think the WC option is pretty pointless though, taking nothing away from their period, its just obvious geelong and brisbane are a step above

If that is the criteria then surely Geelong. Won 108 of last 125 matches (I think).

Still think Brisbane because they were 1 quarter away from 4 flags in a row.
But if Geelong do it again next year they will take the crown.

Fitzroy and Brisbane merge together which made a brilliant team, Geelong built their team with no help what so ever.

Brisbane by miles, Geelong and Collingwood have shown how hard it is to win back to back let alone three in a row. It doesn't matter about their concesions the actual team was the best.

Probably Brisbane. They had better forwards.

Why is West Coast in this poll?

Brisbane. Cats are close with the mids equal, backs equal but the Bris forward line gives them the edge and my vote.

Father son rule was pretty good to them.

Brisbane for mine. That team was so great champions like Lynch, Leppa and Lappin were almost second stringers. Three flags in a row doesn't happen every decade, whereas the Cats haven't even managed back-to-back yet. WCE don't come close to either.

Geelong, the were better for longer.

Mids are about equal
Geelong have better defenders
Brisbane had better forwards

So? It's pretty hard to stay at the absolute top for 5 years. Even Brisbane couldn't do it.

Adelaide won b2b in '97 and '98. They'll barely be remembered as great. Let alone any other team that's won b2b.

Anyway. Next year is our chance, and I'm tipping us to do it. 4 flags in 6 years :thumbsu:

I doubt many teams that won b2b are remembered as all time greats.

We're still looking good in the 5th year of our era. What happened to Brissy?

Brisbane

2001 - Premiership
2002 - Premiership
2003 - Premiership
2004 - Grand Final runner-up

Six years.

Geelong
2007 - Premiership
2008 - Grand final runner-up
2009 - Premiership
2010 - Preliminary Final
2011 - Premiership
2012 - ??????

Father son rule was pretty good to them.

We've only really got two guns out of the Father-Son rule - Gary Ablett jnr and Scarlett, while the jury's probably still out on Hawkins.

Weigh that against the likes of Nathan Ablett (had the skill, but not the work ethic), Tim Callan, Simon Fletcher, Marc Woolnough, Mark Blake and David Clarke.

Interestingly, before we drafted Jed Bews, Collingwood had actually had more F/S picks than we had, but it seems like the F/S rule has only been beneficial to us.

And do you think that's harder than winning three flags in a row

Take a look at TBD's post; Brisbane go pretty close to matching Geelong's five year record. I would also refer you to the Kangaroos of the 90's who competed in something like 6 consecutive Preliminary Finals, yet only managed 2 flags and none back to back. For me, Brisbane's three-peat is one pretty clear point of distinction.

Gee not certain you can clearly pick the Cats defense over the Lions.

Scarlett > Michaels
Taylor< Leppich
Enright = Lappin
Milburn < Johnson
Harley > C Scott
Mackie = D White

3 all draw for me.
