Who is the most unique player in the AFL?

The same 28yr old who had his most productive season after all these years?
Pendlebury has been doing what he does since his second season in this league

Wasn't about consistency... it was about being unique. Mundy may be Pendlebury lite. But he's still Pendlebury lite.

Both players have very similar strengths. Pendlebury is just better, and has been more consistent. Can't name him as the most unique player in the league if there's another guy with very similar traits that isn't quite as good.

That's my point.

I have a memory of him so surreal I'm not sure if I just imagined it.

A few years back when he was playing for Geelong, I think it was against North. Anytime he got the ball the North players would all back off, wave their arms & try to shoo him over the boundary.

Yeah, I remember that game, they corralled him instead of trying to tackle him.
So strong through the hips and moves like no other. Total package.

I don't want to detract from the magnificence that was Kepler, but Knights somehow managed to dislocate his kneecap having a snap at goal last season.

Fair point, though I probably didn't explain it well enough. He did it by attempting to wrap his leg around an opponent.

Did you think watching that game, "Hey if GC gets a team in the AFL, GAJ will be the inaugural GC captain, B&F, etc, etc"?

Westhoff - pick 71, pulls some gems from nowhere as mentioned earlier - big marks, goals from anywhere. Runs all game, plays everywhere, and is only a touch under 2 metres tall.

Capable of doing the impossible then completely spudding it up the next minute, although he was a lot more consistant this year, huge improvement.

Does anyone else here realise that "unique" is an absolute word, and hence it is wrong to call someone "more unique" or "very unique"?

If someone is unique then they are one of a kind. Even if out of the 7 billion people on this planet there are only two of a certain type, they are not unique.
Totally agree.

For pure participation in this thread - i'd say James Manson's kicking action. There is only one and there will never be another like it.

Besthoff. 6 foot 8, plays like a midfielder and is a strange lanky looking creature. That freak banana against Geelong was magnificent. Start of the year showed how good he can be.

Naitanui, anyone?

How many 200cm+ tap ruckmen are ground level tackle and clearance machines who rove packs to snap goals when they aren't taking MOTY contenders?

I bet none of them look like a big palm tree...

Did you just post in a four page thread about unique players and honestly think you'd be the first to mention him?

Adam Goodes has to be one of the most unique players to ever have played the game. He has played pretty much every position on the field including Ruck.

Have never seen him in the back half.

Have seen Kouta on all lines though and in the ruck.

Michael Tuck was pretty unique for mine. Tall, thin, wiry, not particualrly elite at any facet of the game and played more games than any other player ever will.
