What about Charlie Dixon? They're always going on about how strong he is.

Rhys Stanely routinely holds all the lifting records at Geelong, beating out Hawkins

Slingshottin' like a wimp. I'm not impressed.
Yep - slingshot is just an overload tool. I've maxed 135kg for one and would estimate I could maybe get 140kg x1 if I'm lucky. But, a slingshot would put me in Rhys Stanley territory, despite the fact that he's got a good 10-15kg on me. Not super impressive. Would say there'd be plenty that could bench more than that. Jonathan Brown was said to bench 180kg for example.

I've got a lot of resistance training experience and I reckon just by the eyeball test - the strongest overall would be:
Preuss, ROB, Casboult, Hawkins, Hogan, Marcus Adams - in any order.

Wildcards: Aaron Naughton, Sean Darcy

As far as pound for pound, probably:
Taylor Adams, Schultz, Petracca, Wines

In terms of football type strength, as in - control in the contest, balance over the footy etc. You'd have a very different set of players:
Curnow, Dusty, Cripps, Petracca, Oliver, Wines, Newcombe, Dixon, Libba, Neale, Parish, Parker, Buddy, Chol, Maynard, Shuey, Jack Graham, Schultz, Fyfe, Membrey, Taylor Adams

I'm missing a few I'm sure - but it's important to remember that football strength and actual 1RM strength in a resistance training context are two different things. Tom Mitchell has said in the past that Buddy and JPK both benched 60kg for reps, which is an incredibly low number yet both are players that I'd rate as being strong on field. It's horses for courses, but in the interest of sticking to the thread theme I reckon those first five I mentioned would be hard to go past.

Someone who doesn't get a mention and is deceivingly bigger than he seems in person is Tom Jonas...

That bloke is a beast.

I bet he can move some weight.

Pound for pound they don't come much harder than Pickett. Would have done some damage in the '80's.

Again don't think that's necessarily strength, it's technique and "footy strength" - despite this being Crippa I LOVED this tackle. Cripps is for mine, one of the most imposing units in the AFL and rarely gets taught a lesson. Marlion put him off balance then almost judo threw him. Excellent tackle, all fair and above board and made Cripps question whether or not he should be going the fend.

Pickett is more the Ablett senior type of strength, they can hit very hard without much of a run up and you stay hit. And yes it was quite a tackle, glad you can appreciate it.

Darcy can bench 160kg according to the fremantle podcast he was on. He weighs almost 120kg so you'd expect him to be putting up some serious numbers.

Niknat's playing weight is listed as 105 but apparently its also closer to 120kg.
Yep, that doesn't surprise me one bit! He's a mountain of a man and would be up there.

Not sure about now, but Viney could bench 155kg at 23 when he weighed about 82kg.

Viney would be up there IMO, has the right build for it.

Most of the tall players are too tall and lean to move serious weight, it would be the shorter stockier guys like Viney, Adams, Neale types etc..

The super heavyweight lifters are reasonably tall but carry huge bulk, which AFL players don't.

Who is the strongest is a very subjective.
Is it based off just benchpressing.
Power in the legs?
Who uses their strength the best in game day?
Yeah, subjective based on the context. Bench press is the worst indicator of strength in an AFL context but it was the one I threw out as I had heard of Jonathan Brown's bench stats as well as Brett Deledios in the past. Realistically, squat and DL are the best two indicators of overall strength but as you said - it's about how well you can use your strength on game day.

Dusty certainly wouldn't be setting any records in the gym but he can definitely use the strength he has on field very well, for example.

Apparently Adam Treloar is super strong.

Apparently Dusty is super strong in the gym in terms of in the legs, that's where I reckon most of his strength comes from.

Also Stefan Martin worth a shout out. Apparently he’s a beast. I have nothing concrete to provide but if I did, I’m sure big Stef would be able to break it.

Sam Frost would be up there.
