Why did Mcleod play?

Why so much hate based on assumptions of a guy who is a champion of our club? (actually.. the game!)

Unless we have facts on motivations for playing then we are just perpetuating rumour and innuendo. That's disgraceful given the service Macca has given our footy club.

Should he have played on the weekend? No, I don't think so but it wasn't my decision. I was frustrated watching his performance but it was obviously a judgement call by him and the team that went wrong.

Anything beyond that, unless you have facts to back up your rage/hate, is just out of line in my opinion. What are the motivations for trying to blemish a true champion of our club?

I'm not trying to do that , although I think he's doing a good job of it himself lately , merely pointing out what is going on.

Don't get me wrong I think he has been the clubs best player and one of my favourites, but to let that sort of performance go unnoticed I could not.

Auscat, i think your opinions are little to harsh on Mcleod.

I believe that if McLeod had better knees he could last another 2 seasons, easy.

However, the coaches need to consider and ask themselves some hard questions just like Blighty did.

Is he going to be a part of team that will win our next premiership.
Can another rookie give more to the team than he can at present.

If yes to both of these questions, then unfortunately his time is up.

McLeod is a true champion of the game who is playing well below his level that he has played previously.

He is like an old cadilac that shows glimpses of efforts of years gone by but he is racing against new models that now are able to hold him down.

On the contrary, his knees will be just as "good" as they have been.

Last time he came back and played super football and even if not fully fit, he is more value than Edwards.

I don't know about that, depends how "not fully fit" he is, yesterday and over the past couple of months, he hasn't been fully fit and hence his output has been severely diminished and since the WC match Edwards output lifted dramatically to be the best performed of our 3 muskateers.

Please though, lets not get into this whole Edwards v Mcleod thing again.

You have a real problem dont you!

And his knee's will never be good, ever, not with the damage he has done to them.

I was very annoyed at Roo for putting his hand up to play that final last year (and what turned out to be his last game) when he was in no shape to do so, just so that he could hold the highest games record for the club and get a send off. To me that was selfish and quite possibly cost us the final in the end, as we effectively played a man down. Club Champ or not... he made the wrong call for the wrong reasons. He was better than that.

It would be remiss of me to not be upset with McLeod if I thought he was doing the same thing. At this stage, however, I don't think he is. He has played some reasonable footy (pre-wankfest in Victoria) and all being well, could still have an impact on our season. If he put in another game like the last one, I think there would be reason for concern if he was selected after that and as sad as it would be... he shouldn't be gifted games because of who he is.

A club on the move owes a former great nothing, in my opinion.

I may be in the minority but I don't think there are too many things more embarassing than a struggling former champion being pushed or limping over the line to reach a milestone.

this coming from a Freemantle supporter means nothing.

I'm not sure of auscast's motivations, but JP "Rachel" you have made yours clear. Can we have a conversation about McLeod without bringing Edwards into it?!?! and vice-versa. It's (You are) embarassing.

He should not have played. He was crap. God knows if he was still injured or if he just went 'walkabout' but he was not switched on and made many crucial errors. I expect more from Macca.

McLeod had to complete training successfully on Thursday and see how the knee came up on Friday/Saturday before being considered. Neither Club nor player would have said he was right to play unless the knee was fine. He was shut-down by Cornes, conditions were crap... it happens. He'll be better for the run I would think.

Jenny61, you are exactly right.

Kane Cornes did shut McLeod down in the Showdown. Tonight, against Sydney, while still not at his best, he was much better for that run and played his part in this victory.

At the Showdown conference, Craig said that the decisison to play McLeod wasn't a mistake. His fitness was OK; his form was not, Craig said.

Should Craig have run McLeod back into form in the SANFL, rather than the Showdown? Who knows?

More importantly, what difference would it have made? If McLeod hadn't played, Kane Cornes would have taken another key Adelaide player out of the game.

That has to be one of the most disgraceful performances I have seen on a footy field, and I thought Jericho was soft......clearly just playing for himself not the team.
Will limp his way to 300, very selfishly.

Has to go at the end of the year.

Have to say I agree with this, hopefully he can turn it around though, would be good to see if he will put his body on the line again and actually have some hard ball gets / contests.

You didn't watch the game against Sydney then???

His game was definately better than the week before when on Kane Cornes.
Who hasnt Cornes taken to the cleaners?

I was very surprised though to see McLeod throw his body on the ball early in the 1st quarter. Havent witnessed that for ages.

Me too.... think he might have been reading the "soft" comments on here? ;)

Jenny (and anyone else) - i would suggest that you take comments by "granny9" & "auscast" with a grain of salt.

I think "granny9" is "auscast" but if not then closely related to "auscast"

He/they have a running anti-McLeod/pro Edwards agenda on our board littered with vitriolic & venomous bias against McLeod.

He has never really been an in and under palyer because he has never needed to be. On occassion he does the hard things though, but hell I would much prefer him to stay out of the rough stuff if it helps his longevity. He has been such a special player that the more games we can get out of him the better. Every player has some down games and McLeod is no exeception, particularly as he gets older, however he is still a VERY valuable assett for our football club.

I actually think that Macca can go on for another couple of years - he showed early in the season how valuable his run & quick direct rebound was.
