This is coming off a season where we finished 14th, with expectations that we would be a bottom eight side again.
Carlton came off a season where they were always considered to be top 8 contenders, and, as is now a tradition, bailed out of the finals in the first week.

I hate Carlton because they are Carlton. They are scum and the club are cheating scums. I hate Carlton so much that one of my favourite players, Chris Judd, became one of my hated players during his time in Carlton. I hate Carlton so much that talking about hating Carlton makes my blood boil. I hate Carlton because losing to them is one of the worst experiences. Look forward to beating them the most and hate losing to them the most.

Why are a lot of Essendon supporters saying that they dont hate Collingwood? I really hate Collingwood. Hate them exactly the same amount as i hate Carlton. Around Carlton supporters, i hate Carlton more. Around Collingwood Supporters, I hate Collingwood more. Hate Carlton more in terms of the club because of their cheating culture, but i hate Collingwood supporters much more. But in terms of rivalry, the Carlton and Hawthorn rivalries are definitely stronger than Collingwood. So I hate losing to those two more than Collingwood. If that makes sense.

Their give their players some of the worst nicknames in the footballing world: Garlie, Juddie, Hoolahoops, Lady, Yazzle Dazzle (are you ****ing kidding me?) and Smurf. Hearing their supporters yell these names out during a game just makes me cringe.

I never heard Judd referred to as Juddie when he was at West Coast. That's because West Coast supporters are not a bunch of complete w***ers!

They lie and cheat and steal in order to win. Not even the filth at Collingwood stoop to that level!

Also, like it has been mentioned here, their supporters celebrate their bought heroes as if they were home grown and have been dedicated to Carlton forever, when the fact is they are all a bunch of mercenaries.

They even make excuses for their supporters in their team song by saying they are the 'only team old Carlton knows', as if its not their fault they follow a corrupt team - its the only one they know about!

I tell you what, if they were the only team I knew, I still wouldn't bloody follow them!

Whearas our rivalry with Collingwood is built on mutual respect, and Hawthorn, whilst tinged with hatred is STILL respectful, Carlton is nothing but pure hate and disgust. Zero respect. Matter of fact, Carlton is the only side in the league that if I could snap my fingers and remove them, I would.

Why the **** would I want to spend half our cap on some mercenary pig when we can recruit a Hurley, Pears, Zaharakis, Melksham, Heppell and co. You know, actually build a team? Besides, our captain actually DESERVES the job through service to the club and leadership qualities.

Anyway, I hate Carlton because of their fans. I haven't had the misfortune to have to deal with the scum in person. Right now, I have the mental picture of a mob of people, all unattractive, all foaming at the mouth, missing teeth, smelly and unclean. Granted, I've only had to deal with them on twitter while following our games. They have no class, no shame, no sense of honor.

The game is richer for me because there is a rivalry as bitter as Essendon/Carlton.

Sheeds knew this and he built it up more and more over the years because it added something to the contest for both spectators and the club. He knew that a rivalry/hatred can help get the players up for the contest more than usual.

Let's face it, we all get off a little bit on the fact that so many opposition supporters hate us with a passion too.

But having said all this, there is no club more hate-able in the AFL than Carlton, is there?
